Replacement

  1. Loosen the wheel nuts slightly. Raise the vehicle and make sure it is securely supported.
  2. Remove the front wheel and tire (A) from the front hub.

    Tightening torque: 88.2 - 108 N·m

Be careful not to damage the hub bolts when removing the front wheel and tire (A).
  3. Remove the brake caliper mounting bolts, then secure the brake caliper assembly (B) with wire.

    Tightening torque: 78.4 ~ 98 N·m

  4. Disconnect the tie rod end ball joint (A) from the steering knuckle.
    1. Remove the cotter pin (B).
    2. Remove the castellated nut (C).

      Tightening torque: 34.3 to 44 N·m

  5. Loosen the mounting bolt and remove the wheel speed sensor (B) from the steering knuckle (A).

    Tightening torque: 6.8 - 10.8 N·m

  6. While applying the brake, remove the drive shaft nut (A) from the front hub.

    Tightening torque: 274.6 ~ 294 N·m N·m (28.0 ~ 30.0 kgf·m, 202.5 ~ 217.0 ft-lbf)

    • Always replace the hub lock nut with a new one.
    • After installing the lock nut, stake the lock nut using a chisel and hammer, as shown in the illustration below.
  7. Loosen the front brake disc set screw and remove the front brake disc (A).

    Tightening torque: 4.9 - 5.8 N·m

  8. Remove the lower arm (A) from the steering knuckle.

    Tightening torque: 98.0 ~ 118 N·m

  9. Remove the front lower arm from the front steering knuckle using SST (0K545-A9100).
    1. After removing the bolts from the front steering knuckle, install and tighten the body support bolt (A).
    2. Insert the auxiliary body (A) between the front steering knuckle and the auxiliary body bolt.
    3. Tighten the auxiliary body mounting bolt (B) to increase the clearance of the front steering knuckle.
    4. Install the safety wire (A).
Attach the safety wire to the front strut to prevent the SST from falling and injuring the technician.
    5. Install the main body between the front strut and the lower arm.
    6. To prevent the main body from separating, install the locking clamp (A) next to the main body.
    7. After installing the locking clamp, turn the handle (B) clockwise until the clamp engages the lower arm.
    8. Slowly tighten the main body bolt (A) and remove the lower arm from the front steering knuckle.
  10. Disconnect the drive shaft (A) from the front hub assembly, then loosen the strut mounting bolts and remove the steering knuckle assembly (B).

    Tightening torque: 196.1 ~ 216 N·m N·m (20.0 ~ 22.0 kgf·m, 144.7 ~ 159.1 ft-lbf)

  11. Install in the reverse order of removal.

Inspection

  1. Check the hub for cracks and worn splines.
  2. Check the brake disc for scratches and damage.
  3. Check the joint for cracks.
  4. Check the bearing for cracks or damage.

Disassembly

  1. Remove the snap ring (A).
  2. Remove the hub assembly from the steering knuckle assembly.
    1. Install the front steering knuckle assembly (A) on the press.
    2. Install a suitable adapter (B) onto the hub shaft assembly.
  3. Remove the hub bearing inner race from the hub assembly.
    1. Install a suitable tool (A) for removing the hub bearing inner race onto the hub assembly.
    2. Place the hub assembly and tool (A) on a suitable adapter (B).
    3. Install a suitable adapter (C) onto the hub shaft assembly.
    4. Using a press, remove the hub bearing inner race (D) from the hub assembly.
  4. Remove the hub bearing outer race from the steering knuckle assembly.
    1. Install the hub assembly (A) onto a suitable adapter (B).
    2. Install a suitable adapter (C) onto the hub bearing outer race.
    3. Using a press, remove the hub bearing outer race from the steering knuckle assembly.
  5. Replace the hub bearing with a new one.

Installation

  1. Install the hub bearing onto the steering knuckle assembly.
    1. Place the steering knuckle assembly (A) on the press.
    2. Install a new hub bearing onto the steering knuckle assembly (A).
    3. Install a suitable adapter (B) onto the hub bearing.
    4. Install the hub bearing onto the steering knuckle assembly using a press.
