Rear Parking Assist System Precautions

~1min read
  • The rear parking assist system may sound inconsistently depending on the speed and shape of detected objects.
  • The rear parking assist system may malfunction if the vehicle bumper height or sensor installation has been changed or damaged. Any non-factory equipment or accessories may also affect sensor operation.
  • The sensor may not detect objects closer than 30 cm (11.8 in.) from the sensor, or it may detect the wrong distance. Be careful.
  • If the sensor is frozen or covered with snow, mud, or water, it may not operate until the contamination is removed with a soft cloth.
  • Do not press, scratch, or strike the sensor. Damage to the sensor may occur.

✽ NOTICE

This system can only detect objects within the range and location of the sensors; it cannot detect objects in other areas where sensors are not installed. Also, small or thin objects, such as poles or objects located between the sensors, may not be detected by the sensors.

Always visually check the rear of the vehicle when backing up. Be sure to inform any drivers of the vehicle who may be unfamiliar with the system of the system's capabilities and limitations.

WARNING

Be especially careful when the vehicle approaches objects on the road, especially pedestrians, and especially children. Keep in mind that some objects may not be detected by the sensors due to the distance, size, or material of the object, all of which may limit the effectiveness of the sensors. Always perform a visual inspection to make sure the vehicle is clear of all obstacles before moving the vehicle in any direction.
