AUTO (Automatic) Operation

The rain sensor (A), located at the upper part of the windshield, detects the amount of precipitation and controls the wiping cycle at appropriate intervals. The heavier the rain, the faster the wiper operates. When the rain stops, the wipers stop.

To change the speed setting, turn the sensitivity adjustment knob (1).

If the wiper switch is set to AUTO with the ignition switch ON, the wipers will operate once to perform a system self-check. Set the wiper switch to OFF when the wipers are not in use.

CAUTION

When the ignition switch is ON and the wiper switch is in AUTO mode, observe the following precautions to avoid injury to your hands or other parts of your body:

  • Do not touch the upper edge of the windshield facing the rain sensor.
  • Do not wipe the upper edge of the windshield with a wet or damp cloth.
  • Do not press on the windshield.

CAUTION

When washing the vehicle, set the wiper switch to the OFF position to stop the automatic wipers from operating.

The wiper may operate and may be damaged if the switch is in the AUTO position during car washing.

Do not remove the sensor cover located at the top of the windshield on the passenger side. Damage to system components may occur, which may not be covered by your vehicle warranty.

When starting the vehicle in winter, set the wiper switch to the OFF position. Otherwise, the wipers may operate and ice may damage the wiper blades. Always remove all snow and ice and defrost the windshield before operating the wipers.
