What to Do in an Emergency

Towing Services

~1min read

If emergency towing is required, we recommend that it be performed by an authorized Kia dealer or a commercial towing service. Correct lifting and towing procedures are necessary to prevent damage to the vehicle. The use of wheel dollies or flatbed trucks is recommended.

For instructions on towing a trailer, refer to “Trailer Towing” in chapter 6.

Towing the vehicle with the rear wheels on the ground (without a dolly) and the front wheels off the ground is permitted.

If any of the loaded wheels or suspension components are damaged, or if the vehicle is towed with the front wheels on the ground, use a towing dolly under the front wheels.

When towing with a commercial tow truck without wheel dollies, always lift the front of the vehicle, not the rear.

✽ NOTICE

If the EPB does not operate normally, we recommend that you take your vehicle to an authorized Kia dealer by loading it onto a flatbed truck and having the system inspected.

CAUTION

  • Do not tow the vehicle in reverse with the front wheels on the ground, as this may cause damage to the vehicle.
  • Do not tow the vehicle with sling equipment. Use a wheel lift or flatbed equipment.

When towing the vehicle in an emergency without wheel dollies:

1. Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position.

2. Shift the gear shift lever to the N (Neutral) position.

3. Release the parking brake.

CAUTION

If the shift lever is not placed in the N (Neutral) position, internal damage to the transmission may result.
