What to Do in an Emergency

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)

Low Tire Pressure Warning Light / TPMS Malfunction Indicator

Each tire, including the spare (if equipped), should be checked monthly when cold and inflated to the tire pressure recommended by the vehicle manufacturer on the vehicle placard or tire pressure label.

(If your vehicle is equipped with tires of a different size than those indicated on the vehicle certification label or tire pressure label, you must determine the correct tire pressure for those tires.)

As an additional safety measure, your vehicle is equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) that illuminates the Low Tire Pressure warning light when one or more of your tires is significantly under-inflated. Accordingly, when the low tire pressure warning light illuminates, stop as soon as possible and check your tires and inflate them to the proper pressure. Driving on a significantly under-inflated tire causes the tire to overheat and can lead to tire failure. Under-inflation also reduces fuel efficiency and tire tread life, and may affect the vehicle's handling and stopping ability.

Note that the TPMS does not replace proper tire maintenance. The driver is responsible for maintaining correct tire pressure, even if pressure has not dropped to the level that illuminates the TPMS low tire pressure warning light.

Your vehicle is also equipped with a TPMS malfunction indicator to indicate when the system is not operating properly. The TPMS malfunction indicator is combined with the low tire pressure warning lamp. When the system detects a malfunction, the indicator will flash for approximately one minute and then remain steadily illuminated. This sequence will continue during subsequent vehicle starts until the malfunction is corrected. When the malfunction indicator is illuminated, the system may not be able to detect or signal low tire pressure as intended. TPMS malfunctions may occur for a variety of reasons, including the installation of replacement or alternate tires or wheels on the vehicle that prevent the TPMS from functioning properly. Always check the TPMS malfunction indicator after replacing one or more tires or wheels on your vehicle to ensure that the replacement or alternate tires and wheels allow the TPMS to continue to function properly.

✽ NOTICE

If the TPMS low tire pressure warning light does not illuminate for approximately 3 seconds when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position or the engine is running, or if it remains illuminated after approximately 3 seconds, we recommend that the system be inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.
