Wipers

~2min read

If the wiper blade is not in the normal position, turn the ignition switch to the ON position. The wiper blade will return to the normal position.

The following are cases in which the wiper blade may be in an abnormal position.

- The wiper blade may be in an incorrect position after an automatic car wash. (Ignition switch in OFF position)
- The wiper blade may be in an incorrect position if it is moved by force.
- The passenger-side wiper arm is positioned over the driver-side wiper arm. (Normal position: The driver-side wiper arm should be positioned over the passenger-side wiper arm.)

When a problem occurs with the motor that drives the wiper blades, the wiper blades will stop and the fail-safe function will activate when the ignition is switched on, in the ON position, or while driving. The fail-safe function operates as follows:

- HI or Mode 2 (5 minutes) → LO or Mode 1 (5 minutes) → INT or Mode --- (5 minutes) → OFF or O (Stop)

CAUTION

If the wiper blades do not return to the normal position, remove wax, water repellent, oil and other debris from the windshield, then check the wiper operation again.

CAUTION

After the overload condition is eliminated, if the wiper blade or motor operation problem remains, we recommend having the system checked by an authorized Kia dealer.

❈ Overload condition

- On a rainy day when driving through a long tunnel
- When washing the vehicle with wax
- Water-repellent coating (coated glass)
- Cleaning the windshield washer nozzles
- Excessive blade wear, etc.

On a rainy day, if the windshield dries while driving through a long tunnel, the wiping speed may decrease to protect the motor and the blade. It will return to normal after passing through the tunnel.

In the event of a wiper motor overload, this function automatically adjusts the wiper speed in the vehicle. This function prevents damage to the wiper motor and wiper blades. When the overload condition is eliminated, the system returns to normal operation. Due to wind pressure at high speed, the wiper blades may be lifted upward. This prevents damage to the wiper motor caused by overload from wind pressure.

When the wiper blade operation and the wiper switch operate normally, the system returns to its normal position.

When the operation of the passenger-side wiper blade is restricted by accumulated snow on the hood, the swing angle of the driver-side wiper blade is reduced to avoid collision between the wiper blades. When operating at a reduced angle, the driver-side blade stop position will be different.

✽ NOTICE

If you do not remove the snow and/or ice before using the wiper and washer, the wiper and washer system may be damaged.
