What to Do in an Emergency

If the Engine Does Not Start

~1min read

If the engine does not start or cranks slowly

1. If your vehicle has an Intelligent Variable Transmission, make sure the shift lever is in N (Neutral) or P (Park) and the parking brake is applied.

2. Check the battery connections to make sure they are clean and tight.

3. Turn on the interior lights. If the lights dim or go out when you operate the starter, the battery is discharged.

4. Check the starter connections to make sure they are securely tightened.

5. Do not push or tow the vehicle to start the engine. Refer to the instructions for "Jump Starting".

WARNING! Press/pull the START button.

Do not push or tow the vehicle to start the engine. Pushing or towing to start may overheat the catalytic converter and create a fire hazard.

If the engine cranks normally but does not start

1. Check the fuel level.

2. With the ignition switch in the LOCK position, check all connectors on the ignition coils and spark plugs. Reconnect anything that may have been disconnected or loosened.

3. Check the fuel lines at the engine.

4. If the engine still does not start, contact an authorized Kia dealer or other qualified service provider.
