If an Emergency Occurs While Driving
If the Engine Stalls at an Intersection or Crossing
If the engine stalls at an intersection or crossing, shift the gear lever to the N (Neutral) position, then push the vehicle to a safe place.
If a Tire Goes Flat While Driving
If a tire goes flat while driving:
1. Release the accelerator pedal and allow the vehicle to slow down while keeping it in a straight line. Do not apply the brakes immediately or attempt to leave the road, as this may cause loss of control. When the vehicle has slowed to a safe speed, carefully apply the brakes and pull off the road. Move off the road as far as possible and park on firm level ground. If you are on a divided highway, do not park in the median between the two lanes of traffic.
2. When the vehicle stops, turn on the hazard warning flashers, apply the parking brake, and shift the transmission to P (for Intelligent Variable Transmission) or to reverse (manual transmission).
3. Ask all passengers to exit the vehicle. Make sure they all exit on the side of the vehicle away from traffic.
4. When replacing a flat tire, follow the procedure described later in this section.
If the Engine Stalls While Driving
1. Gradually reduce speed while keeping the vehicle in a straight line. Carefully move off the road to a safe location.
2. Turn on the hazard warning lights.
3. Try starting the engine again. If your vehicle does not start, contact an authorized Kia dealer or other qualified assistance.
✽ NOTICE
If the Check Engine light illuminates and the engine loses power or stalls, and if it is safe to do so, wait at least 10 seconds before restarting the vehicle after it stops. This may reset the vehicle so that it no longer operates in reduced power mode (limp mode).
