Power Windows (If Equipped)

~4min read

The power windows can only operate when the ignition switch is ON.

All doors have window switches. The driver's door has a window lock switch, which can disable the rear window switches. After the ignition key is removed or the ignition switch is in the ACC or LOCK position, the power windows can still be operated for 30 seconds. When the front doors are opened, the power windows cannot be operated within 30 seconds after the ignition key is removed (if equipped).

If an object is blocking the window from closing, remove the object and close the window.

NOTICE

When driving with the rear windows open (or partially open) and with the sunroof open (or partially open) (if equipped), wind noise or a pulsating noise may occur. This noise is normal and can be reduced or eliminated as follows. If noise occurs between two open rear windows, close both front windows approximately 2.5 cm (1 in.). If noise comes through the open sunroof, reduce the sunroof opening slightly.

WARNING

Do not install accessories in the window area. Otherwise, the anti-pinch protection may be impaired.

Opening and Closing Windows

When the main window switch is ON, all windows of the vehicle can be controlled from the driver's door.

To open or close a window, press or pull the front end of the switch to the first detent (5).

Automatic Window Up and Down (If Equipped)

When you briefly press or pull the switch to the second detent (6), the window fully opens or closes, even if you release the switch. To stop the automatic window movement at a desired position, pull or press the switch briefly in the opposite direction. If the automatic window does not operate properly, reset the automatic window as follows:

1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

2. Close all windows and, after the window is fully closed, pull up the driver's side window switch and hold it for at least 1 second.

Anti-Pinch Protection (Automatic Reverse)

If the upward movement of the window is blocked by an object or part of the body, the window detects resistance and stops moving up. After that, the window lowers approximately 30 cm (12 in.) from the top edge so the object can be removed.

If the window detects resistance while the power window switch is continuously pulled, the upward movement stops and the window then lowers approximately 2.5 cm (1 in.).

If the power window switch is pulled again within 5 seconds after the window automatically lowered, the anti-pinch function is not activated.

NOTICE

The anti-pinch (automatic down) function of the driver's window is active only when the "Automatic Close" function is activated by fully pulling the window switch. The anti-pinch (automatic down) function is not active when the window switch is pulled only to the first detent.

WARNING

Before closing the window, always make sure that no objects are in the way to avoid injury and damage. If an object with a diameter of less than 4 mm is caught between the window glass and the upper window seal, the automatic system may not detect the resistance and will not stop or reverse.

WARNING

The anti-pinch function is not active when the power window system is being reset.

Make sure no body parts or objects can get caught in the window to prevent injury or vehicle damage.

Window Lock Switch (If Equipped)

  • The driver can use the window lock switch to disable the window switches of the other doors by pressing the switch down to the lock position.
  • When the window lock switch is in the locked position (pressed in), only the driver's door main switch can control all windows. The passenger door switch cannot control the window.

DANGER

  • To avoid damaging the power window system, do not operate more than two windows at the same time. This prolongs the service life of the corresponding fuse.
  • Never try to operate the driver's door window switch and the window switch of the concerned door at the same time in opposite directions. The window in question will stop in this case and will no longer open or close.

WARNING

Window

  • NEVER leave the ignition key in the vehicle with unattended children, or leave children unattended in the vehicle with the engine running.
  • NEVER leave one or more children unattended in the vehicle. Even very young children may unintentionally start the vehicle moving, become trapped by the windows, or injure themselves or others.
  • Before closing a window, always make sure that no hands, arms, head, or any objects are in the window's path.
  • Do not allow children to play with the power window switches. Keep the power window lock switch on the driver's door in the LOCK (pressed) position. Unintentional operation of a power window by a child may result in serious injury.
  • Do not extend your head or hands out of the window while driving.
