Smart Key Functions

~2min read

If you have the Smart Key with you, you can open the vehicle doors (and lock and unlock the tailgate). It can also start the engine. For more information, refer to the following.

Lock

If you press the front outside door handle button while all doors (and the tailgate) are closed and one or more doors are unlocked, all doors (and the tailgate) will lock. If all doors (and the hood and tailgate) are closed, the hazard warning lights flash once briefly to indicate that all doors (and the tailgate) are locked.

The doors can be unlocked by pressing this button only when the Smart Key is within 0.7–1 m (2.3–3.3 ft) of the outside door handle. To make sure the door is locked or not, check the door lock button inside the vehicle or pull the outside door handle.

Although you can use the outside door handle buttons, the doors will not lock and the buzzer will not sound for 3 seconds if any of the following conditions apply:

  • The smart key is inside the vehicle.
  • The ENGINE START/STOP button is in the ACC or ON position.
  • A door other than the tailgate is open.

unlock

If you press the front outside door handle button while all doors (and the tailgate) are closed and locked, all doors (and the tailgate) will unlock. The hazard warning lights flash twice briefly to indicate that all doors (and the tailgate) are unlocked.

The doors can be unlocked by pressing this button only when the Smart Key is within 0.7–1 m (2.3–3.3 ft) of the outside door handle.

If the Smart Key is detected within 0.7–1 m (2.3–3.3 ft) of the front outside door handle, other people may open the door even without the Smart Key.

If no door is opened within 30 seconds after pressing the button, all doors automatically lock again.

Unlock the Tailgate

When you approach with the Smart Key within 0.7–1 m (2.3–3.3 ft) of the outside tailgate handle, the tailgate is unlocked and the tailgate opens when you press the switch on the tailgate handle.

The turn signal lights flash twice briefly to indicate that the tailgate is unlocked. In addition, the tailgate is automatically locked when it is opened and closed again.

Starting the Engine

You can start the engine without inserting the key into the ignition switch. For more information, refer to "Engine Start with Smart Key" on page 6-09.
