Closing the Tailgate

~1min read

To close the tailgate, lower it and push it firmly down. Make sure the tailgate is fully latched.

WARNING

Be careful that your hands, feet and other parts of your body are not caught before closing the tailgate.

DANGER

When closing the tailgate, check that no foreign objects are in the latch and the tailgate latches are not obstructed. Otherwise the tailgate latch may be damaged.

WARNING

Exhaust Gas

If the tailgate is open while driving, dangerous exhaust gases may enter the vehicle. This may cause serious injury or death to vehicle occupants. If it is necessary to open the tailgate, stop the vehicle first.

Open the vents and all windows to allow additional fresh air into the vehicle.

While the vehicle is moving, the tailgate must always be fully closed. If it is left open completely or partially, toxic exhaust gases may enter the vehicle and cause serious injury or death to occupants.

WARNING

Restraint

People must never ride in the cargo area, as there are no restraint systems there. To prevent injury in an accident or sudden stop, passengers must always wear seat belts correctly.

WARNING

  • Remember where the tailgate emergency release lever is located and how it works, so you can get out if you are accidentally locked in the luggage compartment.
  • Never allow anyone to hold on while the vehicle is moving. Holding on to the top of the vehicle is a dangerous accident-causing location.
  • Use the release lever only in emergencies. Be extremely careful, especially when the vehicle is moving.
