If an Emergency Occurs While Driving
If the Engine Stalls at an Intersection or Crossing
- If the engine stalls at an intersection or crossing, shift the gear lever to the N (Neutral) position, then push the vehicle to a safe place.
- If your vehicle has a manual transaxle that is not equipped with an ignition interlock switch, the vehicle can be moved forward by shifting into 2nd or 3rd gear, then cranking the starter without depressing the clutch pedal.
If You Have a Flat Tire While Driving
If a tire goes flat while driving:
1. Release the accelerator pedal and allow the vehicle to slow down while traveling straight ahead. Do not brake immediately or attempt to steer off the road, as this may cause loss of control. When the vehicle has slowed to a speed where it is safe, brake carefully and pull off the road. Move as far from the traffic lane as possible and park on a firm, level surface. If you are on a divided highway, do not park in the median between the two lanes.
2. Once the vehicle is stopped, turn on the hazard warning flashers, set the parking brake, and shift the transmission into P (automatic transmission) or reverse (manual transmission).
3. Ask all passengers to exit the vehicle. Make sure everyone exits on the side of the vehicle away from traffic.
4. When replacing a flat tire, follow the instructions provided later in this section.
If the Engine Stalls While Driving
1. Gradually reduce speed while keeping the vehicle in a straight line. Carefully move off the road to a safe location.
2. Turn on the hazard warning lights.
3. Try starting the engine again. If the vehicle does not start, we recommend that you consult an authorized Kia dealer.
