Installing a Child Restraint System with the Lap/Shoulder Belt

To install a child restraint system on the outboard or center rear seat, follow these steps:
1. Place the child restraint system on the seat and route the lap/shoulder belt around or through the restraint, following the restraint manufacturer's instructions. Make sure the belt is not twisted.

2. Insert the lap/shoulder belt latch plate into the buckle. Listen for a distinct "click".
Position the release button so that it is easily accessible in an emergency.

3. Pull the belt tight and remove any slack from the seat belt. After installing the child restraint, try to move it in all directions to make sure it is securely installed.
If you need to tighten the belt, pull more of the belt out toward the retractor. When you unbuckle the seat belt and let it retract, the retractor automatically returns to its normal passenger seat condition, using the emergency locking function.
