Securing a Child Restraint Using the Tether Anchor System

■ 3-Door and 5-Door

■ Wagon
The tether anchor hooks for child restraints are located on the rear parcel shelf behind the rear seat (3-door and 5-door) or on the floor behind the rear seats (estate).

This symbol indicates the position of the tether anchor.

1. Route the child seat tether strap over the seatback.
For vehicles with adjustable head restraints, route the tether strap under the head restraint and between the head restraint posts. Otherwise, route the tether strap over the top of the seatback.
2. Connect the tether strap hook to the child restraint tether hook holder and tighten to secure the seat.
WARNING
The child may be seriously injured or killed in a collision if the child restraint is not properly secured to the vehicle and the child is not properly restrained in the child restraint. Always follow the child restraint manufacturer's installation instructions and use them.
WARNING! Seat Belt
Never install more than one child restraint on a single tether anchor or a single lower anchor point. Increased loads caused by multiple seats may cause the tethers or anchor points to fail, resulting in serious injury or death.
WARNING
Do not install a child restraint in the center rear seat position using tether anchors. Tether anchors are designed only for the left and right outboard rear seat positions.
In an accident, child seat tether anchors may not be strong enough to properly secure a child restraint in the center rear seat position and may break, causing serious injury or death.
WARNING - Check the child restraint
Make sure the child restraint is secure by pushing and pulling it in different directions. Improperly installed child restraints may rock, twist, tip over or separate, which may result in death or serious injury.
WARNING - Child restraint anchorages
- Child restraint anchorages are designed to withstand only the loads generated by properly installed child restraints. Under no circumstances should they be used for adult seat belts or shoulder belts, or for attaching other items or equipment to the vehicle.
- The tether strap may not function properly if it is attached to any anchor other than the correct tether anchor.
