Engine Exhaust Can Be Dangerous

WARNING

ENGINE EXHAUST CAN BE DANGEROUS!

Engine exhaust gas can be extremely dangerous. If at any time you smell exhaust fumes inside the vehicle, open the windows immediately.

  • Do not breathe exhaust gas. Exhaust gas contains carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless gas that can cause loss of consciousness and death by asphyxiation.
  • Make sure the exhaust system does not leak. The exhaust system should be inspected whenever the vehicle is raised for an oil change or for any other purpose. If you hear a change in exhaust sound or if you drive over something that strikes the underside of the vehicle, have the system inspected by a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
  • Do not run the engine in an enclosed area. Leaving the engine idling in your garage, even with the garage door open, is a dangerous practice. Never start the engine in a garage longer than required to start the engine and drive the vehicle out.
  • Avoid extended idling periods with people inside the vehicle. If it is necessary to leave the engine running for a long time with people inside the vehicle, be sure to do so only in an open area with the air intake set to "Fresh" and the blower fan running on one of the higher speeds so fresh air flows inside.

If you must drive with the luggage compartment lid open because you are carrying items that make it necessary:

1. Close all windows.

2. Open the side vents.

3. Set the air intake control to "Fresh", airflow distribution to "Floor" or "Face", and the fan to one of the highest speeds.

To ensure proper operation of the ventilation system, make sure the ventilation air intakes located in front of the windshield are kept clear of snow, ice, leaves and other obstructions.
