Engine Oil

~1min read

Checking the Engine Oil Level

1. Make sure the vehicle is on level ground.

2. Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature.

3. Turn off the engine and wait several minutes (about 5 minutes) for the oil to return to the oil pan.

4. Pull out the dipstick, wipe it clean, and reinsert it fully.

WARNING

Radiator Hose

Be very careful not to touch the radiator hose when checking or adding engine oil, as it may be hot enough to burn you.

5. Pull out the dipstick again and check the level. The level should be between F (Full) and L (Low).

CAUTION

  • Do not overfill the engine oil. This may damage the engine.
  • Do not spill engine oil when adding or replacing engine oil. If you spill engine oil in the engine compartment, wipe it up immediately.
  • When wiping the oil level dipstick, use a clean cloth. Dirt mixed in may cause engine damage.

If the level is at or near L (Low), add enough oil to bring the level up to F (Full). Do not overfill.

Use a funnel to prevent oil from contacting engine components.

Use only the specified engine oil. (Refer to "Recommended Lubricants and Capacities" on page 9-11.)

Engine Oil and Filter Replacement

Have the engine oil and filter replaced by a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.

WARNING

Used engine oil may cause skin irritation or cancer if left in contact with the skin for prolonged periods of time. Used engine oil contains chemicals known to cause cancer in laboratory animals. Always protect your skin by washing your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water as soon as possible after handling used oil.
