If the engine stalls while stopped at an intersection

  • If the engine stalls while stopped at an intersection, shift the gear selector to N (Neutral) and push the vehicle out of traffic.
  • If your vehicle has a manual transmission and no starter interlock switch, shifting into 2nd or 3rd gear and cranking the starter without pressing the clutch pedal may cause the vehicle to lurch forward.

Flat tire while driving If a tire goes flat while driving:

  1. Release the accelerator pedal and let the vehicle slow down while continuing in a straight line. Do not brake immediately or try to steer to the side of the road, as you may lose control of the vehicle. Once the vehicle has slowed sufficiently, brake carefully and pull over to the edge of the road.

Pull over as far as possible to the edge of the road and park on level, stable ground. On divided highways, do not park in the median area between the two carriageways.

  • After stopping the vehicle, turn on the hazard warning flashers, apply the parking brake and shift the selector to P (Park) on automatic transmission vehicles.
  • Have all passengers get out of the vehicle.
  • Make sure you exit the vehicle on the side of the road away from traffic.
  • To replace a flat tire, follow the instructions provided in this section.
  • If the engine stalls while driving

    1. Gradually reduce speed while keeping the vehicle in a straight line. Carefully steer to the edge of the road in a safe location.
    2. Turn on the hazard warning flashers.
    3. Try starting the engine again. If the vehicle does not start, contact an authorized Kia dealer or a qualified repair shop.
