What to Do in an Emergency

Low Tire Pressure Warning

~2min read

( ) warning light will illuminate when an under-inflated tire is detected. In some types, the message above may be displayed on the cluster.

If the warning light illuminates, reduce speed, avoid sharp turns and hard braking. Have your vehicle inspected at a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.

Check the pressure of all tires and inflate them to the proper pressure according to the procedures and, if necessary, replace or repair the tires.

If you cannot reach the nearest service station, stop the vehicle in a safe place, check all tires, and perform the TPMS system setup procedure. If you cannot adjust the tire pressure, use the repair kit or replace the tire with the spare wheel, and contact a professional workshop. Kia recommends contacting an authorized Kia Dealer/Service Partner.

You may not be able to detect low tire pressure visually. Use an accurate gauge to measure and adjust the tire pressure. Note that a tire heated by prolonged driving will have higher pressure. We recommend measuring and adjusting the tire pressure after the vehicle has been driven less than 1.6 km (1 mile) in 3 hours.

CAUTION

  • The indicator may remain illuminated after replacing a tire with the spare wheel because the rolling radius is different. Be sure to replace it with a regular tire.
  • For safe driving, note that the TPMS does not replace proper tire maintenance. It is the driver's responsibility to maintain correct tire pressure, and all tires should be checked monthly to maintain the recommended pressure.
  • The warning lamp may illuminate if the system is not installed under the required conditions.
  • In cold weather, the low tire pressure warning lamp may illuminate even if the tire has been adjusted to the correct pressure. This does not mean the TPMS is malfunctioning, because a drop in temperature causes tire pressure to decrease. Check the tires and adjust them to the recommended pressure.
  • System performance may decrease in the following situations.
    - Incorrect system setup
    - Use of non-genuine tires (genuine tires are recommended)
    - Driving on snowy, slippery, or unpaved roads
    - Sharp turns, rapid acceleration, and repeated braking
    - Driving too slowly or too fast
    - If the vehicle is overloaded
    - If a spare wheel or snow chain is installed

WARNING

  • Driving with an underinflated tire causes the tire to overheat and may lead to tire failure. It also reduces tire life, vehicle handling, braking performance, and fuel economy, and makes the vehicle unstable. In this case, have the correct tire pressure maintained by a professional workshop. Kia recommends contacting an authorized Kia Dealer/Service Partner.
  • A sudden tire failure caused by external factors may not be indicated immediately. If the vehicle becomes unstable, immediately release the accelerator pedal and move the vehicle to a safe place to inspect it.
