Hill-start Assist Control (HAC)

~1min read

The Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) is designed to prevent the vehicle from rolling backward by automatically applying the brakes for approximately 2 seconds. The brakes are released when the accelerator pedal is pressed or after approximately 2 seconds.

HAC operates for only approximately 2 seconds, so always press the accelerator pedal promptly when starting off on a hill.

WARNING. Maintaining Brake Force on a Slope.

HAC does not eliminate the need to apply the brakes when stopped on a slope. While stopped, make sure brake pressure is sufficient to prevent the vehicle from rolling back and causing an accident. Do not release the brake pedal until you are ready to accelerate forward.

CAUTION

  • HAC does not operate when the shift lever is in the P (Park) or N (Neutral) position.
  • HAC activates even when ESC is turned off, but does not activate if the ESC is malfunctioning.
