Seat Belt Care

~1min read

Seat belt systems must never be disassembled or modified. In addition, care must be taken to ensure that the seat belts and seat belt anchorages are not damaged by the seat, seat hinges, doors, or other interference.

WARNING

  • When returning the rear seatback to the upright position after it has been folded, be careful not to damage the seat belt webbing or buckle. Make sure the webbing or buckle is not pinched or trapped in the rear seat. A seat belt with damaged webbing or buckle is not strong and may fail in a collision or sudden stop, which may result in serious injury. If the webbing or buckle is damaged, replace it immediately.
  • Seat belts can become hot in a vehicle that has been closed in sunny weather. They can burn infants and children.

Periodic Inspection

It is recommended to periodically inspect all seat belts for wear or damage of any kind. Any damaged parts must be replaced as soon as possible.

Keep Belts Clean and Dry

Seat belts must be kept clean and dry. If the belts become dirty, they may be cleaned with a mild soap solution and warm water. Do not use bleach, dye, strong detergents, or abrasives, as they may damage and weaken the webbing.

When to Replace Seat Belts

All seat belt assemblies or components in use must be replaced if the vehicle has been involved in a crash. This must be done even if no damage is visible. In this case, have the system replaced at a professional workshop. Kia recommends contacting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
