Loose objects

Loose objects in the driver's footwell may interfere with the operation of the pedals and cause an accident. Do not place anything under the front seats.

WARNING

Driver's responsibility for the front passenger

Kia Soul. Seat

Riding in a vehicle with the front seatback reclined may result in serious or fatal injury in an accident. If the front seat is reclined during a crash, the passenger's hips may slide under the lap belt with great force onto the unprotected abdomen. This may cause serious or fatal internal injuries. The driver should advise the front passenger to keep the seatback upright whenever the vehicle is in motion.

WARNING

Do not use a seat cushion that reduces friction between the seat and the passenger. The passenger's hips may slide under the lap portion of the seat belt during a collision or sudden stop. This may cause serious or fatal internal injuries, because the seat belt cannot function properly.

WARNING

Driver's seat

  • Never attempt to adjust the seat while the vehicle is moving. This could cause loss of vehicle control and result in an accident causing death, serious injury, or property damage.
  • Do not allow anything to interfere with the proper position of the seatback. Storing items against the seatback or otherwise improperly securing the seatback may result in serious or fatal injury in a sudden stop or collision.
  • Always drive with the seatback upright and the lap portion of the seat belt snug and low on the hips. This is the best position to protect you in the event of an accident.
  • To avoid unnecessary and possibly serious injury from the airbags, always sit as far back from the steering wheel as possible while maintaining comfortable control of the vehicle. It is recommended that your chest be at least 250 mm (10 in) from the steering wheel.

WARNING

Rear seatbacks

  • The rear seatback must be securely latched. Otherwise, passengers and cargo may be thrown forward, which may result in serious injury or death in a sudden stop or collision.
  • Luggage and other cargo should be stowed evenly in the cargo area. If items are large, heavy, or must be stacked, they must be secured. Under no circumstances should cargo be stacked higher than the seatbacks. Failure to observe these warnings may result in serious injury or death in a sudden stop, collision, or rollover.
  • No passenger should ride in the cargo area, or sit or lie on folded seatbacks while the vehicle is moving. All passengers must sit properly in seats and be properly restrained while riding.
  • When returning the seatback to the upright position, make sure it is securely locked by pushing it forward and backward.

WARNING

After adjusting the seat, always check that it is securely locked by trying to move the seat forward and backward without using the adjusting lever. A sudden or unexpected movement of the driver's seat may result in loss of vehicle control and cause an accident.

WARNING

  • Be extremely careful not to pinch your hands or other objects in the seat mechanisms while adjusting the seat.
  • Do not place a cigarette lighter on the floor or seat. When operating the seat, gas may escape from the lighter and cause a fire.
  • If there are passengers in the rear seats, be careful when adjusting the front seat position.
  • Use extreme caution when collecting small objects that have become lodged under the seats or between the seat and center console. Your hands may be cut or injured by sharp edges of the seat mechanism.
