If an Emergency Occurs While Driving
If the engine stalls at an intersection or crosswalk
- If the engine stalls at an intersection or crossing, shift the gear selector lever to N (Neutral), then push the vehicle to a safe location.
- If your vehicle has a manual transmission without an ignition interlock switch, the vehicle can be started by shifting into 2nd or 3rd gear and then cranking the starter without depressing the clutch pedal.
If You Have a Flat Tire While Driving
If a tire goes flat while driving: 1. Release the accelerator pedal and allow the vehicle to slow down while keeping the vehicle straight. Do not brake immediately or attempt to steer off the road, as this may cause loss of control. When the vehicle has slowed to a safe speed, brake gently and steer off the road. Move as far off the road as possible and park on a firm, level surface. If you are on a divided road, do not park on the median strip between the two traffic lanes.
2. When the vehicle has stopped, turn on the hazard warning flashers, apply the parking brake and shift the transmission into reverse (manual transmission).
3. Ask all passengers to exit the vehicle. Make sure they all exit on the side of the vehicle away from traffic.
4. When replacing the flat tire, follow the instructions given later in this section under "Tire Replacement with TPMS" on page 7-11.
If the Engine Stalls While Driving
1. Gradually reduce speed while keeping the vehicle in a straight line. Carefully steer off the road to a safe location.
2. Turn on the hazard warning lights.
3. Try starting the engine again. If the vehicle does not start, contact a professional repair shop. Kia recommends contacting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
