Emergency Equipment
Your vehicle carries emergency items to help you respond to an emergency.
Fire Extinguisher
If the fire is small and you know how to use a fire extinguisher, carefully follow these steps.
1. Pull the pin at the top of the fire extinguisher, which prevents the handle from being accidentally pressed.
2. Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire.
3. Stand approximately 2.5 m (8 ft) from the fire and squeeze the handle to discharge the fire extinguisher. If you release the handle, the discharge will stop.
4. Sweep the nozzle back and forth at the base of the fire. After the fire appears to be out, watch it carefully, as it may reignite.
First Aid Kit
Some items, such as scissors, bandages, and adhesive tape, are included in the first aid kit.
Warning Triangle
Place the warning triangle on the road to warn oncoming vehicles during an emergency, such as when your vehicle is stopped on the shoulder due to a problem.
Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensor (if equipped)
Tires normally lose air during everyday use, and you may need to add a few psi of air periodically. This is normally a sign not of a tire leak but of normal wear. Always check tire pressure when the tires are cold, because tire pressure increases with temperature. To check tire pressure, perform the following steps:
1. Unscrew the valve cap located on the tire rim.
2. Press the gauge onto the tire valve and hold it. Some air will escape when you start, and more will escape if you do not press the gauge on firmly.
3. A firm press without leaks activates the gauge.
4. Read the tire pressure on the gauge to determine whether the tire pressure is low or high.
5. Adjust the tire pressure to the specified value. Refer to "Tires and Wheels" on page 8-48.
6. Reinstall the valve cap.
