Maintenance and care of the vehicle. Cleaning and protecting the vehicle interior
The switch layout in the Lexus GS L10 is designed for maximum ergonomics and intuitive operation. This chapter provides a complete overview of the position and function of the switches for lighting, driver assistance systems, power windows and other convenience features. Special notes on safe use while driving and on avoiding distraction emphasize the high standards that the Lexus GS sets for safety and driving comfort. Every detail is designed to optimally support the driver.
Use the following procedures to protect the interior of your vehicle and keep it in top condition:
Protecting the Vehicle Interior
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner. Wipe soiled surfaces with a cloth soaked in lukewarm water.
For surfaces that are still dirty, use a diluted water solution with approx. 1% neutral cleaner. Then wipe off all remaining cleaner residue with a cloth dampened with water, wringing out all excess water.
Cleaning Areas with Satin-Finish Metal Accents
- Remove dirt with a soft cloth or a synthetic chamois dampened with a baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) solution.
Use a solution of approx. 9% baking soda dissolved in water.
- Wipe the surface with a dry, soft cloth to remove any remaining moisture.
Cleaning Leather Areas
- Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner.
- Wipe off any further dirt and dust with a soft cloth soaked in diluted cleaner.
Use a diluted water solution with approx. 5% neutral wool cleaner.
- Wring excess water out of the cloth and thoroughly wipe off any remaining cleaner residue.
- Wipe the surface with a dry, soft cloth to remove any remaining moisture. Let the leather dry in the shade in a well-ventilated place.
Cleaning Artificial Leather Areas
- Remove loose dirt with a vacuum cleaner.
- Apply a mild soap solution to the artificial leather with a sponge or soft cloth.
- Let the solution soak in for a few minutes. Remove the dirt and wipe off the solution with a clean, damp cloth.
Cleaning Alcantara* Areas
- Brush the surfaces with a soft brush.
Do not brush too hard, as this may cause damage.
- Clean the surfaces with a soft cloth that you have dampened with cold or lukewarm water and then wrung out.
- Let the Alcantara* dry in the shade in a well-ventilated place.
*: "Alcantara" is a registered trademark of Alcantara S.p.A.
■ Caring for Leather Areas
Lexus recommends cleaning the interior at least twice a year to maintain the quality of the vehicle interior.
■ Foam Cleaning of Floor Carpets
Various foam cleaners are available on the market. Use a sponge or brush to apply the foam. Work in circular motions, gradually increasing the size of the circles. Do not use water. Wipe soiled areas and let them dry. The best results are achieved when the carpet stays as dry as possible.
■ Seat Belts
Clean the belts with mild soap and lukewarm water using a cloth or sponge. Also check the belts regularly for excessive wear, fraying or cuts.
■ Cleaning Carpeted Areas of the Glove Box, Console Box, etc.
Using strong adhesive tape may damage the carpet surface.
WARNING
■ Water in the Vehicle
- Do not spill or splash any liquids in the vehicle. This could cause malfunctions of electrical components, etc., or cause a fire.
- Components of the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) and wiring in the vehicle interior must not get wet. An electrical malfunction may cause the airbags to deploy or not function correctly, which may result in death or serious injury.
■ Interior Cleaning (Especially the Instrument Panel)
Do not use polishing wax or polish. The instrument panel may reflect in the windshield, which may obstruct the driver's view and result in an accident causing death or serious injury.
NOTICE■ Cleaning Agents
- The following cleaning agents must not be used, as they can cause discoloration in the vehicle interior and streaking or damage to painted surfaces:
- Do not use polishing wax or polish. This may damage the painted surfaces of the instrument panel or other interior parts.
■ How to Avoid Damage to Leather Surfaces
Observe the following precautions to avoid damage and wear to leather surfaces:
- Remove dust or dirt from leather surfaces immediately.
- Do not expose the vehicle to direct sunlight for extended periods. Park the vehicle in the shade, especially in summer.
- Do not leave vinyl, plastic or wax-containing items on the upholstery, as they may stick to the leather when the interior becomes very hot.
■ Water in the Footwell
Do not wash the vehicle floor with water.
Vehicle systems, such as the audio system, could be damaged if electrical components, such as the audio system above or below the floor of the vehicle, come into contact with water. The body may also begin to rust.
■ Cleaning the Inside of the Windshield (Vehicles with Lexus Safety System+)
Make sure no glass cleaner gets on the lens. Also, do not touch the lens.
■ Cleaning the Inside of the Rear Window
- Do not use glass cleaner to clean the rear window, as this may damage the defogger
or antenna wires on the rear window. Use a cloth dampened with lukewarm water to gently wipe the window. Wipe the window clean in straight strokes parallel to the defogger or antenna wires.
- Take care not to scratch or damage the defogger or antenna wires.
Interior care for the Lexus GS GRL1 (2016–2020) combines high-quality materials with carefully considered cleaning recommendations.
