Immobilizer System
The immobilizer system only allows the engine to start with a key recognized by the system.
If someone attempts to start the engine with a key not recognized by the system, the engine will not start, which helps protect the vehicle against theft.
If there is a problem with the immobilizer system or the key, contact an authorized Mazda dealer.
WARNING
- Radio equipment of this type is regulated by law. Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance may void the user's authority to operate this equipment.
- To avoid damaging the key, do not:
- Do not drop the key.
- Do not get the key wet.
- Do not expose the key to magnetic fields.
- Do not expose the key to high temperatures, such as on the dashboard or on the hood in direct sunlight.
- If the engine does not start with the correct key, and the security indicator stays on or flashes, the system may be malfunctioning. Contact an authorized Mazda dealer.
NOTE
- Keys have a unique electronic code. For this reason, and for security, there is a waiting period before a replacement key can be obtained. Replacement keys can only be obtained through an authorized Mazda dealer.
- Always make sure to keep a spare key in case a key is lost. If a key is lost, contact an authorized Mazda dealer as soon as possible.
- If a key is lost, an authorized Mazda dealer will reset the electronic codes of the remaining keys and of the immobilizer system. Take all remaining keys to an authorized Mazda dealer to have them reset. The vehicle cannot be started with a key whose electronic code has not been registered.
Operation
NOTE
- The engine may not start and the security indicator may come on or flash if the key is placed where the system has difficulty detecting the signal, for example on the dashboard or in the glove box. Place the key in another location within the signal range, turn the ignition switch to the off position, then restart the engine.
- Signals from a radio or television station, a transceiver, or a cellular phone may interfere with the immobilizer system. If the engine does not start even when the correct key is used, check the security indicator.
Arming
The system is armed when the engine start button is pressed from ON to OFF.
The security indicator on the dashboard will flash at 2-second intervals until the system is disarmed.
Refer to Indicator and Warning Lights on page 4-24.
Disarming
The system is disarmed when the ignition switch is turned to ON using the correct programmed key. The security indicator comes on for about 3 seconds, then goes off. If the engine does not start with the correct key, and the security indicator stays on or flashes, try the following: Check that the key is within the signal transmission range. Turn the ignition switch to the off position, then restart the engine. If the engine still does not start after 3 or more attempts, contact an authorized Mazda dealer.
NOTE
- If the security indicator starts flashing and keeps flashing while driving, do not stop the engine. Go to an authorized Mazda dealer and have the system checked. If the engine is stopped while the indicator is flashing, it will not be possible to restart it.
- Because the electronic codes are reset when the immobilizer system is repaired, the keys are required. Be sure to take all keys to an authorized Mazda dealer so that they can be programmed.
