Increasing the cargo volume

Important safety notes

WARNING

Do not transport heavy or hard objects in the passenger compartment or in the cargo compartment without securing them.

Otherwise, you or other occupants could be injured by objects thrown forward in the event of hard braking, sudden changes of direction or an accident.

When the cargo volume needs to be increased, the seat cushions must always be folded forward and the cargo barrier must always be hooked in place.

WARNING

Only drive with the tailgate closed to prevent exhaust gases from entering the passenger compartment.

Before folding down the rear seat backrest, remove the side head restraint for the integrated child seat (see chapter “Side head restraints for integrated child seats”). Otherwise, the side head restraint could be damaged. Before folding down the rear seat backrest, make sure that the rear armrest and cup holder are folded up. Otherwise, they could be damaged.

Folding the rear seat backrests forward

To increase the cargo compartment volume, the left and right rear backrests can be folded forward separately.

WARNING

Make sure the backrests are fully locked. The red locking indicators on the left and right must no longer be visible. If they are visible, the backrests are not locked.

Occupants could then be injured in an accident, for example by objects carried in the cargo compartment that would be thrown forward.

Loading position

The following tips will help you make the most of your cargo compartment:

  • If you set the backrests to the loading position (at 90°), the cargo volume increases.
  • Vehicles equipped with a height-adjustable load compartment floor: if you set the load compartment floor to the upper position, you have a level loading surface.
  • If you slide the rear seat bench fully forward, you obtain a larger loading area.
  • If you fold the front passenger seat backrest and the corresponding rear seat backrest forward, the loading area is lengthened.

Adjusting the Rear Seat Backrest Angle

You can adjust the backrest angle in 13 steps.
