TIREFIT repair kit

Using the TIREFIT tyre sealant kit

TIREFIT is a tyre sealant kit.

The TIREFIT tyre sealant kit allows you to seal the tyre, in particular its tread, if the punctures are no larger than 4 mm. You can use the TIREFIT at outside temperatures down to -20 °C.
.

WARNING

In the following cases, the sealant cannot get you out of trouble because it cannot seal the tyre:

  • the size of the cuts or punctures in the tyre is larger than the value indicated above
  • the wheel rim is damaged
  • you have driven with the tyre under-inflated or flat

There is a risk of an accident.

Do not continue driving! Contact a qualified workshop.

WARNING

The tyre sealant kit is harmful to health and causes irritation. It must not come into contact with the skin, eyes or clothing, nor be swallowed. Do not inhale TIREFIT vapours. Keep the sealant out of the reach of children. There is a risk of injury.

If you have come into contact with the sealant, observe the following notes:

  • In case of skin contact, rinse immediately with water.
  • If sealant has come into contact with the eyes, rinse immediately and thoroughly with clear water.
  • If sealant has been swallowed, rinse the mouth thoroughly straight away, then drink plenty of water. Do not induce vomiting and consult a doctor immediately.
  • Change clothing immediately if it has been soiled by the sealant.
  • In the event of an allergic reaction, consult a doctor immediately.

  • Do not remove foreign objects (screws or nails, for example) that have penetrated the tyre.
  • Remove the sealant bottle, the enclosed “80 km/h max.” sticker and the inflation compressor from the storage compartment under the cargo compartment floor.
  • Attach part 1 of the sticker within the driver's field of vision.
  • Attach part 2 of the sticker near the valve on the wheel of the defective tyre.

  • Remove the filler hose 6 and plug 3 from the base of the inflation compressor housing.
  • Push the yellow plug of the filler hose into the yellow lock 5 housing of the sealant bottle 1 until it clicks into place.
  • Push the yellow lock 5 of the sealant bottle 1 into the recess of the inflation compressor 2 until both tabs click into place. The sealing rings must face forward.

  • Remove the valve cap 7 from the defective tyre.
  • Screw the filler hose 8 onto the valve.
  • Turn the key to position 1 in the ignition switch.
  • Set the switch 4 of the inflation compressor to the ON position.

The compressor starts. Inflation of the tyre begins.

The sealant is first injected into the tyre. The pressure may then briefly rise to approximately 500 kPa (5 bar, 73 psi).

Do not stop the tyre inflator during this phase.

  • Let the tyre inflator run for 10 minutes at most. A pressure of at least 200 kPa (2.0 bar, 29 psi) must then be reached.
Do not operate the inflation compressor continuously for more than 10 minutes. Otherwise, it may overheat.

You can restart it once it has cooled down.

If a pressure of 200 kPa (2.0 bar, 29 psi) is reached after 10 minutes at most, see .

If a pressure of 200 kPa (2.0 bar, 29 psi) is not reached after 10 minutes at most, see

If sealant has leaked out, let it dry. It forms a film that can then be removed.

If sealant has leaked onto your clothing, have them cleaned as soon as possible with perchloroethylene.

Failure to achieve an inflation pressure of at least 200 kPa (2.0 bar, 29 psi)

If a pressure of 200 kPa (2.0 bar, 29 psi) is not reached after 10 minutes at most:

  • Switch off the tyre inflator.
  • Unscrew the filling hose from the valve of the defective tyre.
  • Move the vehicle forward or backward very slowly by approx. 10 m.
  • Try inflating the tyre again.

After 10 minutes at most, the tyre pressure must be at least 200 kPa (2.0 bar, 29 psi).

WARNING

If you do not achieve the specified pressure within the stated time, the tyre is too severely damaged. In this case the tyre sealing kit cannot get you going again. Damaged tyres and too low an inflation pressure can seriously impair braking and handling. There is a risk of an accident.

Do not continue driving. Contact a qualified workshop.

Achieving an inflation pressure of at least 200 kPa (2.0 bar, 29 psi)

  • Switch off the tyre inflator.
  • Unscrew the filling hose from the valve of the defective tyre.
Sealant may drip from the filler hose after use. This may cause stains.

Therefore, store the filling hose in the plastic bag in which the TIREFIT tyre sealing kit was stored.

  • Store the sealant bottle, the tyre inflator and the warning triangle.
  • Drive off immediately.
WARNING

A tyre temporarily sealed with the tyre sealing kit impairs handling and is not suitable for driving at higher speeds. There is a risk of an accident.

Adapt your driving style accordingly and drive carefully. Do not exceed the maximum speed specified for a tyre sealed with the tyre sealing kit.

The maximum speed for a tyre sealed with the tyre sealing kit is 80 km/h. The sticker "80 km/h max." must be affixed to the instrument cluster within the driver's field of vision.

  • Stop the vehicle after approx. 10 minutes and check the tyre pressure with the tyre inflator.

The tyre pressure must now be at least 130 kPa (1.3 bar, 19 psi).

WARNING

If you do not achieve the specified pressure after this short drive, the tyre is too severely damaged. In this case the tyre sealing kit cannot get you going again. Damaged tyres and too low an inflation pressure can seriously impair braking and handling. There is a risk of an accident.

Do not continue driving. Contact a qualified workshop.

A sticker showing the call number of the Mercedes-Benz Service24h roadside assistance service can be found inside your vehicle, for example on the driver's side B-pillar.
  • If the pressure is still at least 130 kPa (1.3 bar, 19 psi), correct it (see the table in the fuel filler flap).
  • Increasing pressure: switch on the tyre inflator.

  • Reducing pressure: press the deflation button 1 next to the pressure gauge 2.

  • To remove the sealant bottle from the tyre inflator, press the tabs of the yellow lock.
  • Remove the sealant bottle from the tyre inflator. The filling hose remains attached to the sealant bottle.
  • Store the sealant bottle, the tyre inflator and the warning triangle.
  • Drive to the nearest qualified workshop and have the tyre replaced.
  • Have the sealant bottle and filling hose replaced by a qualified workshop as soon as possible.
  • Have the sealant bottle replaced every 4 years by a qualified workshop.
Environmental protection

Have the used sealant bottle disposed of in accordance with environmental protection regulations, e.g. by a qualified workshop.
