Roof rack

~2min read

The roof rack of the Mercedes E-Class (4th generation, W212, 2009–2016) allows you to use additional storage space safely. This section explains important information on safe installation and loading so that driving characteristics remain optimal even when the roof is fully loaded. The use of approved roof rack systems is recommended.

Important Safety Notes

WARNING

Loading the roof raises the vehicle's center of gravity and changes the handling characteristics. If you exceed the maximum roof load, driving characteristics as well as steering and braking behavior are severely impaired. There is a risk of accident!

Always observe the maximum roof load and adjust your driving style accordingly.

NOTE

Mercedes-Benz recommends that you use only roof racks that have been tested and approved by Mercedes-Benz. These help prevent vehicle damage.

Stow the cargo on the roof rack so that the vehicle is not damaged even while driving.

Make sure that when the roof rack is installed

  • you can fully raise the sliding sunroof/panoramic sliding sunroof, depending on vehicle equipment
  • you can fully open the trunk lid/tailgate
  • the roof antenna is not touched by the roof rack.

To avoid damaging or scratching the covers when opening them, do not use metallic or hard objects.

You can find the maximum roof load in the "Technical Data" chapter.

An improperly secured roof rack or improperly loaded roof may come loose from the vehicle. Always observe the roof rack manufacturer's installation instructions.

This way, the E-Class lives up to its premium standard even with a fully loaded roof.
