Combination switch. Hazard warning flashers. Intelligent Light System
The combination switch of the Mercedes E-Class (4th generation, W212, 2009–2016) combines many lighting and turn signal control functions in one operating element. Together with the Intelligent Light System, the road is optimally illuminated, which increases safety at night and in poor weather conditions. The hazard warning flashers can also be activated quickly to warn other road users.

Info
The hazard warning flashers also work when the ignition is switched off.
Intelligent Light System
General Notes
The Intelligent Light System adapts the headlights to the driving and weather situation. It provides extended functions for improved road illumination, e.g. depending on driving speed or weather conditions. The system consists of active cornering light, cornering light, motorway light and extended fog light. The system is only active in darkness.
You can switch the Intelligent Light System function on or off via the on-board computer.
Active cornering light

The active cornering light is a system in which the headlights follow the steering movements. This illuminates relevant areas further ahead while driving, so pedestrians, cyclists and animals can be detected earlier.
Active: When the light is switched on.
Cornering Light

The cornering light illuminates the road in the direction of the turn over a wide angle, so that e.g. tight bends are easier to see. It can only be activated when the low beam is switched on.
Active:- When you drive slower than 40 km/h and switch on the turn signal or turn the steering wheel.
- When you drive between 40 km/h and 70 km/h and turn the steering wheel.
The cornering light may remain on briefly, but it switches off automatically after three minutes at the latest.
Motorway light

Active: When you drive faster than 110 km/h and at least 1000 m without significant steering wheel input, or when you drive faster than 130 km/h.
Not active: When you drive slower than 80 km/h after activation.
Extended fog light

The extended fog light reduces self-glare and improves the illumination of the road edge.
Active: When you drive slower than 70 km/h and switch on the rear fog light.
Not active: When you drive faster than 100 km/h after activation or switch off the rear fog light.
The lighting system of the Mercedes E-Class W212 (model years 2009–2016) offers maximum functionality and safety with the Intelligent Light System and the combination switch. Whether high beam, headlamp flasher or cornering light, all functions are intuitive to operate and adapt to the driving situation.
In addition, the automatic hazard warning lamps increase visibility in road traffic in dangerous situations.
