Anti-lock braking system
The anti-lock braking system (ABS) prevents the wheels from locking.
As soon as a wheel tends to lock, the ABS modulates the brake pressure at that wheel. The vehicle can still be steered, even during emergency braking.
ABS control can be recognised by pulsing of the brake pedal and the noise of the control process.
For optimum braking, press the brake pedal fully for the entire duration of braking, despite the pulsing of the brake pedal.
Do not ease off the pedal.
After starting, the system carries out a self-test, which may be audible.

Adaptive brake lights
During maximum braking, all three brake lights flash while ABS control is active.
Malfunction
Caution
If the ABS fails, the wheels may tend to lock during hard braking.
The benefits of the ABS are no longer available. During hard braking, the vehicle can no longer be steered and may skid.
Have the cause of the problem rectified by a workshop.
