Replacing the shims
F8Q engine

Place the vehicle on a two-post lift.
Disconnect the battery.
VALVE CLEARANCE CHECK
Remove the air filter housing and the rocker cover.
Position the valves of the cylinder concerned at end of exhaust / start of intake (valve overlap) and check the clearance.

Compare the two measured values with the specified values, replace the shims concerned.
Clearance setting (in mm), cold:
- Intake: 0.10
- Exhaust: 0.25
REPLACING THE SHIMS
This operation requires removing the intake and exhaust manifolds (see chapter 12 Intake/Exhaust manifolds).
Place the valve concerned at full opening (by turning the engine in the normal direction of rotation).
Insert tool Mot. 1366-01 into the port concerned.

For intake valves
Turn the engine in the normal direction of rotation until the valve bears on tool Mot. 1366-01 (camshaft rotation of 90° from the full-open position).
For exhaust valves
Turn the engine strictly in the reverse direction of rotation (to avoid engine lock-up) until the valve bears on tool Mot. 1366-01 (camshaft rotation of 90° from the full-open position).
Remove the shim using a screwdriver and a magnetic pick-up tool.
NOTE: when refitting the shim, remove the oil from the bottom of the bore (C) of the tappet.

INSTALLATION
Refit in the reverse order of removal.
