Assistance varies according to vehicle speed.

• Never work on components of the electric power steering column assembly.
• If a mechanical diagnosis of the function requires two operators, always disconnect the battery.

Electric power steering control unit

In the event of a fault, the on-board computer displays warning messages:

• "Check steering" message with the "Service" warning light steadily on,
• "Steering fault" message with the "Stop" warning light steadily on,
• the "Service" warning light flashing (at 8 Hz) indicates that the steering wheel angle is not calibrated (blank control unit).

• At start-up, the "Service" warning light comes on for 3 seconds.
• During diagnosis, the "Service" warning light flashes at 2 Hz.
