Instrument panel: Functional description
I - SELF-DIAGNOSIS
All instrument panels are fitted with a self-diagnosis function.
To run the self-diagnosis:
- insert the card into the card holder,
- press the "ADAC" key (driving aid),
- press and hold the start button (approximately 2 seconds).
The instrument panel enters "test" mode.
"Test" mode consists of:
- the "test" mode message display,
- the needles sweeping in steps,
- all warning lights coming on,
- all display segments coming on,
- the software version display ("soft"),
- the "gauge value" display of the fuel level measured in the tank (in litres),
- the "hourly consumption" display,
- the display of stored faults or "test OK".
II - OIL CHANGE DISTANCE
Note: The range and oil change interval can be set using the diagnostic tool.Resetting the oil change distance
- display the driving aid page: "oil change",
- press and hold the daily trip counter reset key,
- the oil change distance flashes, then returns to the initial value,
- release the reset key,
- the oil change distance is reset.
III - DISPLAY OPERATION
1 - Oil level indicator
This function is displayed when the ignition is switched on or after starting the engine, for approximately 30 seconds.
When the level is between the maximum and minimum permitted, the message "oil level correct" appears on the display.
If the trip meter reset button is pressed once during these 30 seconds, level bars appear on the display.
The bars disappear as the level drops and are replaced by a dash.
If the oil level is at the minimum, the message "oil level to be topped up" appears on the display, the oil level bars are replaced by dashes and the "service" warning light comes on in the instrument panel.
To return to on-board computer display, press the start button again.
WARNING: The oil level must be topped up as soon as possible.
Note:- Under normal operating conditions, the oil level is only measured if the ignition has been switched off for more than one minute; otherwise, the previous value is displayed.
- When a gauge fault is detected, the display goes directly to the odometer when the ignition is switched on.
- Variations in the oil level reading are normal.
Several factors may affect the reading:
- parking on a slope,
- waiting too short a time after running the engine briefly (especially when the oil is cold), etc.
2 - Daily trip counter
Odometer and trip meter
The total and trip odometers are displayed approximately 30 seconds after the ignition is switched on (after the oil level information). Pressing the "ADAC" key (located at the end of the wiper stalk) shortens the waiting time.
The trip meter is reset by pressing the "RESET" key. Resetting the trip meter is different from resetting the "ADAC" (distance travelled).
Note: The distance unit (kilometres or miles) cannot be configured. Changing it requires replacing the instrument panel.IV - ON-BOARD COMPUTER
The various on-board computer displays replace the odometers when the "ADAC" key (located at the end of the wiper stalk) is pressed. Resetting (start point) is carried out by pressing the "RESET" key.
The on-board computer information appears in turn on the display after the trip meter, as follows:
- fuel used since the last start point (in litres or gallons*),
- average consumption (in l/100 km or mpg*) since the last start point,
- It only appears after approximately 400 m has been travelled.
- It takes into account the distance travelled and the fuel used since the last start point.
- instantaneous consumption (in l/100 km),
- It only appears when the vehicle speed exceeds approximately 30 km/h.
- With the accelerator pedal released, if the speed is above 30 km/h, the instantaneous consumption is "0".
- This function does not exist in the US version.
- predicted range with the fuel remaining (in km or miles*),
- It only appears after approximately 400 m has been travelled.
- This is the potential range calculated from the distance travelled, the fuel remaining in the tank and the fuel used.
- When the fuel level warning light is on, the range is not displayed.
- distance travelled since the last start point,
- average speed since the last start point,
- It only appears after approximately 400 m has been travelled.
- It is obtained by dividing the distance travelled by the time elapsed since the last start point.
- The time base is internal to the on-board computer.
- oil change distance tells the driver the distance (in km or miles*) that can be travelled before the next oil change,
- set speed.
- If the vehicle is fitted with the "cruise control - speed limiter" function, the display shows the set speed in km/h or mph*.
- Whenever the set speed is changed or cannot be maintained, this information replaces the selected "ADAC" information (see Cruise Control chapter).
If the on-board computer displays flashing dashes, the computer has detected a fault (see Chapter Instrument panel, Instrument panel general, page 83A-11).
