ET020 STEERING WHEEL ANGLE SENSOR LEARN

STATE 1: Not calibrated and not indexed
STATE 2: Not calibrated and indexed
STATE 3: Calibrated and not initialised
STATE 4: Calibrated and initialised

INSTRUCTIONS

Special feature: Failure to perform the steering wheel angle calibration causes the SERVICE warning light to come on and the message "check steering" to appear.

STATE 1: not calibrated and not indexed: the angle is not calibrated and the index has not been marked (steering wheel not turned more than a quarter turn); the calibration routine cannot be started. In this case the "service" warning light flashes at 8 Hz.

STATE 2: not calibrated but indexed: the angle is not calibrated but the index has been marked. The calibration routine can be started.

STATE 3: calibrated but not initialised: the angle is calibrated but the steering wheel has not been turned since ignition was switched on.

The angle is valid with an accuracy of +/- 1.2 OR the battery has been disconnected (with invalid angle).

STATE 4: calibrated and initialised: the angle is calibrated and the steering wheel has been turned since ignition was switched on. The angle is accurate to ±0.1.

After a battery disconnection, state ET020 is "calibrated but not initialised" and PR121 "steering wheel angle" remains at 0.

Refer to the help information for the battery disconnection procedure.

If the angle is stuck at "0" despite steering wheel rotation, the cause may be:
  • Battery disconnection: apply the "battery disconnection" procedure.
  • not calibrated: recalibrate using configuration CF085 "steering wheel angle learn"
  • "STOP" warning light on steady with no assistance and ET020 stuck at "STATE 3": resolve the assistance problem before dealing with the angle sensor. A lack of calibration does not switch on a STOP warning light but a SERVICE warning light.

If assistance returns (STOP warning light off) and the angle problem persists, then recalibrate the angle.

If the state does not match the actions performed on the steering wheel, see diagnosis of fault DF038 "Angle sensor".

If the fault persists, contact your Techline.

AFTER REPAIR

Carry out a fault check with the diagnostic tool.

ET026 ECU CALIBRATION

Config. 0
Config. 1
Config. 2
Config. 3
Config. 4

INSTRUCTIONS

An incorrect ECU calibration leads to degraded performance.

Configuration 0: An uncalibrated or new ECU will always be calibrated to configuration 0. This is the default calibration law.

Configuration 1: K9K engine with manual gearbox, or K4J and K4M engines with manual or automatic gearbox, fitted with 16-inch wheels or smaller.

Configuration 2: K9K engine with automatic gearbox, or F4R and F9Q engines with manual or automatic gearbox, fitted with 16-inch wheels or smaller.

Configuration 3: K9K engine with manual gearbox, or K4J and K4M engines with manual or automatic gearbox, fitted with 17-inch or larger wheels.

Configuration 4: K9K engine with automatic gearbox, or F4R and F9Q engines with manual or automatic gearbox, fitted with 17-inch or larger wheels.

If the configuration read does not match the vehicle, refer to CF088 or SC001.
ET023 COMBUSTION ENGINE OPERATION

STOPPED
STALLED
RUNNING
STARTING

INSTRUCTIONS

Special case: This information comes from the injection ECU and is sent to the electric power steering ECU via the multiplexed network.

STOPPED: the combustion engine has not yet been started, or has been switched off normally using the ignition switch.

STALLED: the combustion engine is stopped, but it was stopped abnormally, without using the ignition switch.

RUNNING: the combustion engine is currently running.

STARTING: the engine is currently being cranked by the starter motor.

If the state does not match the actual engine operation, carry out a multiplexed network diagnosis using the diagnostic tool and fault DF033 "Multiplexed network", and an injection diagnosis.

If the fault persists, contact your Techline.

AFTER REPAIR

Carry out a check with the diagnostic tool

PR003 VEHICLE SPEED

INSTRUCTIONS

Special feature: This information comes from the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) control module and is sent to the Electric Power Steering (EPS) control module via the multiplexed network.

The vehicle speed information is used to reduce assistance as speed increases.
The vehicle speed must be equal to the actual vehicle speed, to within 10 km/h.

If the parameter does not match the actual vehicle speed, carry out a multiplexed network diagnosis using the diagnostic tool and faults DF033 "Multiplexed network" and DF057 "Multiplexed vehicle speed information", and an Anti-lock Braking System diagnosis.

If the fault persists, contact your Techline.

NOTE: If the multiplexed vehicle speed information is missing or invalid, the value displayed by the tool is then 0 or 40 km/h.

AFTER REPAIR

Carry out a check with the diagnostic tool.

PR108 CONTROL MODULE SUPPLY VOLTAGE

INSTRUCTIONS

Nothing to report.

The ECU supply voltage is the voltage across the ECU itself. It should be approximately equal to the battery voltage.
If the parameter does not match the battery voltage, carry out a charging circuit diagnosis and refer to the diagnosis of fault DF020 "Control module supply".

If the fault persists, contact your Techline.

AFTER REPAIR

Carry out a check with the diagnostic tool.

PR118 MOTOR POWER

INSTRUCTIONS

Nothing to report.

Motor power is the power that the assistance motor applies to the steering column, according to the command given by the Electric Power Steering control module.
If the parameter does not match the minimum and maximum values shown on the diagnostic tool, refer to the diagnosis of fault DF035 "Variable-assistance steering motor".

If the fault persists, contact your Techline.

AFTER REPAIR

Carry out a check with the diagnostic tool.

PR119 MOTOR THERMAL PROTECTION INDICATOR

INSTRUCTIONS

Nothing to report

Both the control module and the motor are thermally protected. When the critical temperature is reached, the Electric Power Steering control module limits assistance to 15%.

This critical temperature may vary depending on operation and the forces applied to the motor.

If the temperature exceeds 60 °C, let the steering rest for 1 hour to allow the temperature to drop. Investigate whether this abnormal temperature is due to the environment of the steering column, which amplifies the temperature rise, or to unusual use of the steering by the driver.

NOTE: When the steering wheel is held at full lock for more than 5 seconds, assistance drops to 15%, even though the temperature does not exceed 60 °C.

AFTER REPAIR

Carry out a check with the diagnostic tool.

PR121 STEERING WHEEL ANGLE

INSTRUCTIONS

Nothing to report.

The steering wheel angle, positive to the right or negative to the left, is the position of the steering wheel relative to the zero learned using the steering wheel angle learning procedure.
If the parameter does not match the minimum and maximum values shown on the diagnostic tool, refer to the diagnosis of fault DF038 or DF059 "Steering angle sensor".

If the fault persists, contact your Techline.

NOTE: If the angle is stuck at 0:
  • Either the steering wheel angle has not been calibrated (state ET020 at 1 or 2)
  • Or the steering wheel angle has been calibrated incorrectly (steering wheel offset)
  • Or the procedure following a battery disconnection was not followed.

If fault DF038 or DF059 "Angle sensor" is recorded again, parameter PR121 will remain stuck at 0 regardless of steering wheel movement.

AFTER REPAIR

Carry out a check with the diagnostic tool.

PR133 MOTOR POWER COMMAND

INSTRUCTIONS

Nothing to report.

The assistance motor power command is the power requested from the assistance motor by the Electric Power Steering control module, needed to assist the steering, according to the driver's input and the current operating mode.
The value of parameter PR133 "Motor power command" must be approximately equal to the value of parameter PR118 "Motor power".

If the parameter does not match the minimum and maximum values shown on the diagnostic tool, refer to the diagnosis of fault DF035 "Variable-assistance steering motor".

If the fault persists, contact your Techline.

AFTER REPAIR

Carry out a check with the diagnostic tool

PR134 STEERING COLUMN TORQUE

INSTRUCTIONS

Nothing to report.

Steering column torque is the torque applied by the driver to the steering column. It is positive to the right and negative to the left.
If the parameter does not match the minimum and maximum values shown on the diagnostic tool, refer to the diagnosis of fault DF054 "Torque sensor".

If the fault persists, contact your Techline.

Note: If the torque remains at 0 degrees, either the steering wheel angle has not been calibrated (state ET020 at 1 or 2), or the procedure to follow after a battery disconnection has not been carried out.

AFTER REPAIR

Carry out a check with the diagnostic tool.

PR136 MOTOR TORQUE COMMAND

INSTRUCTIONS

Nothing to report.

The assistance motor torque command is the torque value requested from the assistance motor by the Electric Power Steering control module, needed to assist the steering, according to the driver's input and the current operating mode.

PR140 ASSISTANCE LEVEL

INSTRUCTIONS

Nothing to report.

The assistance level is the percentage of assistance that the Electric Power Steering control module allows, depending on the temperature of the assistance motor and control module, and the type of fault detected.

To cancel assistance limitation due to excessive temperature, simply do not use the steering for at least 1 hour.

NOTE: In normal operation, engine running, the value shown on the diagnostic tool must be 100% and drops to 15% if the lock is held for more than 5 seconds. It is 99% with the engine off or stalled.

If assistance is not at 100% while the temperature is normal, refer to the fault diagnosis and the fault-finding trees (ALP).

If the fault persists, contact your Techline.

AFTER REPAIR

Carry out a check with the diagnostic tool.
