How to Help Prevent Corrosion
Wash the vehicle frequently
The best way to maintain the vehicle's exterior finish and prevent corrosion is to keep it clean by washing it frequently.
Wash the vehicle at least once during winter and once directly after winter. The vehicle, especially the underbody, should be kept as clean and dry as possible.
If the vehicle is frequently driven on roads treated with salt, it should be washed at least once a month during winter. If the vehicle is operated near the sea coast, it should be washed at least once a month throughout the year.
For washing instructions, refer to the section "Cleaning the vehicle".
Remove foreign substances promptly
Foreign substances such as salt, chemicals, tar or asphalt, resin, bird droppings and industrial fallout can damage painted surfaces if left on them.
Remove such deposits immediately.
If they are difficult to remove and an additional cleaner is required, make sure the product used is not harmful to painted surfaces and is intended for the intended purpose. When using special cleaners, follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Repair paint damage
Carefully inspect the vehicle for damage to the paint finish. If you notice any chips or scratches in the paint, touch them up immediately to prevent the formation of corrosion.
If a chip or scratch reaches bare metal, have the repair performed by a workshop specializing in body repairs.
Keep the cabin and luggage compartment clean
Moisture, dust or mud can accumulate under the floor covering and cause corrosion.
Check from time to time that the area under the floor covering is dry and clean. Check more often if the vehicle is used off-road or in bad weather.
Some loads, such as chemicals, fertilizers, solvents, salts, etc., are inherently highly corrosive. Such products should be transported in sealed containers. If they leak or spill, clean and dry the affected area immediately.
Store the vehicle in a dry, well-ventilated place
Do not park the vehicle in a damp, poorly ventilated place. If you frequently wash the vehicle in the garage or frequently drive a wet vehicle into it, the garage may become damp.
High humidity in the garage can cause or accelerate corrosion. A wet vehicle corrodes in poor ventilation, even in a heated garage.
WARNING Do not apply additional protective coatings or anti-corrosion undercoating to or around exhaust system components, such as the catalytic converter, exhaust pipe, etc. If such a coating overheats, it may cause a fire.Test yourself
