Inspection
· Place wheel chocks under the rear wheels, raise the front of the vehicle with a jack and support it on safety stands. Remove the applicable front wheel. · Remove the two bolts securing the brake caliper support bracket to the steering knuckle. Remove the bracket together with the caliper and brake pads, and suspend the entire assembly under the wheel arch using string or wire. To avoid damaging the brake hose, disconnect it from the bracket on the strut. · Mark the position of the brake disc relative to the hub with quick-drying paint, then remove the disc.
- · Wheel hub bearing wear can be checked by measuring hub end play. To do this, mount a dial indicator so that its tip contacts the hub surface mating with the disc, closer to the center of the hub. The axial play of the hub must be within 0 to 0.05 mm. If the play is outside this limit, the bearings are excessively worn and must be replaced.
- · Also measure hub runout. To do this, move the dial indicator tip to the outer edge of the hub. While rotating the hub, measure the maximum difference in dial indicator readings. If runout exceeds 0.07 mm, the hub must be replaced.
