Releasing Fuel Pressure from the Fuel Injection System
The fuel system generally includes a fuel pump located in the fuel tank, a fuel filter, a fuel rail with injectors, and a system of metal and flexible lines connecting the components. All these components contain fuel under pressure while the engine is running and even when the ignition is simply switched on. Pressure in the fuel system remains for some time after the ignition is switched off, so before disconnecting any fuel line for repair or service, the fuel system pressure must first be relieved. To do this:
· Remove the rear seat cushion.
· Remove the screws and slide the fuel pump access cover aside.
· Disconnect the wiring from the pump and the fuel level sender at the top of the pump assembly and secure the wiring to the body with adhesive tape (Fig. 4.2.1.).

Fig. 4.2.1. Disconnecting the fuel level sender and pump wiring
· Start the engine and let it run until it stops.
· Try to start the engine two more times to make sure all fuel remaining in the lines is used up, then switch off the ignition. · Reconnect the wiring to the pump and the fuel level sender, install the pump access cover and the rear seat cushion. Do not switch on the ignition until the work is complete.
