Child seat locking device

~1min read

The locking device for group 0, 0+ and 1 child seats must always be engaged.

Engaging the child seat locking device

  • Secure the child seat with the three-point seat belt, following the child seat manufacturer's instructions.
  • Now fully extend the diagonal belt.
  • Insert the latch plate into the locking buckle intended for the seat until it clicks audibly into place.
  • Allow the diagonal belt to retract until it lies snugly against the child seat. The belt retracting is audible as a "clicking" sound.
  • Pull on the belt (pull test) - it must not be possible to extend it. The child seat locking device is engaged.

Disengaging the child seat locking device

  • Press the red button on the locking buckle.

The latch plate is ejected from the locking buckle by a spring.

  • Guide the belt by hand so that the retractor can wind the webbing back more easily.

To install a child seat, lock the three-point automatic seat belt permanently. This locking ensures the child seat is held in a fixed position in the vehicle. To engage the child seat locking device, fully extend the diagonal belt, then let it retract slowly. The child seat locking device disengages automatically when the belt is fully retracted.

CAUTION!

Never install a rear-facing child seat on the front passenger seat when the front passenger airbag is active. Risk of very serious or fatal injury!
