Catalytic converter

~1min read

The catalytic converter removes certain substances that are harmful to the environment from the exhaust gases.

Caution Fuel that does not meet the specifications described in this manual may damage the catalytic converter or electronic components.

Fuel that is not completely burned will overheat and damage the catalytic converter. For this reason, avoid cranking the starter for long periods when the engine does not start, driving until the fuel tank is empty, and starting the vehicle by pushing or towing.

If you notice ignition problems, uneven engine running, loss of engine power or other unusual symptoms, contact a service center immediately. If necessary, you may continue driving for a short time only, and only while keeping the engine speed low.

Caution Do not touch the catalytic converter while the engine is running. It becomes extremely hot and may cause burns to the skin (hands or other parts of the body). Before touching the catalytic converter, wait two hours after switching off the engine so that it cools down to ambient temperature.
