The washer switch position is interpreted by the steering column switch module. The information is sent to the BSI via the CAR1 VAN network.

There is only one washer pump motor for the front and rear. Depending on the motor rotation direction, the front or rear washer is activated.

The headlamp washer has its own pump motor.

The windscreen washer fluid reservoir capacity is 4 litres.

The windscreen washer fluid reservoir capacity for vehicles equipped with headlamp washers is 6.5 litres.

Front washer

The BSI transmits the wiper commands and the washer pump rotation direction to the motor control unit via the CAR1 VAN network.

The BSI controls the wiper relay in the motor control unit.

The motor control unit controls the washer pump and the front wiper speed activation relay.

When a washing command is given, the following wiping modes are obtained depending on the initial switch position and the operating state of the front wipers:

Rear washer

The BSI transmits the wiper commands and the washer pump rotation direction to the motor control unit via the CAR1 VAN network.

The BSI controls the wiper relay in the motor control unit.

The motor control unit controls the washer pump and the front wiper speed activation relay.

When the driver stops operating the washer control, the wiper still completes three full cycles before stopping.

Headlamp washers

Processing of the information is identical to that for a front windscreen washing request.

The headlamp washers are triggered if front windscreen washing is requested with the dipped beam headlamps on.

Note: Only vehicles fitted with xenon headlamps are equipped with headlamp washers.
