Braking assistance systems

~2min read

A set of complementary systems to help you brake safely and effectively in emergency situations:

  • The anti-lock braking system (ABS),
  • The electronic brake force distribution (EBD),
  • The emergency brake assist (EBA).

Anti-lock braking system and electronic brakeforce distribution

Associated systems that improve the stability and handling of your vehicle when braking, especially on poor or slippery road surfaces.

Activation

The anti-lock system operates automatically when there is a risk of the wheels locking.

Normal operation of the ABS may be felt as slight vibrations through the brake pedal.

In an emergency braking situation, press the brake pedal very firmly and never release the pressure.

Malfunction

d’un signal sonore et d’un message sur l’écran du combiné, indique un dysfonctionnementIf this warning lamp lights up, accompanied by an audible signal and a message on the instrument panel display, it indicates a malfunction of the anti-lock braking system, which may cause loss of vehicle control when braking.

aux témoins stop et abs, accompagné d’un signal sonore et d’un message sur l’écranIf this warning lamp lights up together with the STOP and ABS warning lamps, accompanied by an audible signal and a message on the instrument panel display, it indicates a malfunction of the electronic brake force distributor, which may cause loss of vehicle control when braking.

You must stop in the safest possible conditions.

In both cases, consult a Citroën dealer.

When changing wheels (tyres and rims), make sure they comply with the manufacturer's specifications.

Emergency brake assist

A system which, in an emergency, reaches the optimum braking pressure more quickly, thereby reducing the stopping distance.

Activation

It is triggered according to the speed at which the brake pedal is pressed.

This results in lower brake pedal resistance and more effective braking.

In an emergency braking situation, press the brake pedal very firmly and never release the pressure.
