NOTE:

The remote battery posts can be seen when standing on the right side of the vehicle, looking over the fender. The positive post may be covered by a protective plastic cap. Lift the cap to access the positive battery terminal.

Do not jump start from the fuses. Only jump start directly from the positive post marked with (+) on or near the post.

See the following steps for jump starting:

  1. Apply the parking brake, shift the automatic transmission to PARK, and turn the ignition to OFF.
  2. Turn off the heater, radio, and all electrical accessories.
  3. If using another vehicle as the booster, park the vehicle within reach of the jumper cables, apply the parking brake, and make sure the ignition is off.
  • With the hood raised, be careful of the radiator cooling fan. It may start at any time when the ignition is on. You may be injured by the fan blades.
  • Remove any metal jewelry, such as rings, watch straps, and bracelets, as they may cause unintentional electrical contact. You may be seriously injured.
  • Batteries contain sulfuric acid, which can burn skin or eyes. Batteries generate hydrogen gas, which is highly flammable and explosive. Keep open flames or sparks away from the battery.
