Tire Pressure System Warning

If a system malfunction is detected, the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) will provide a warning. The light will flash for 75 seconds and then remain on continuously. The system malfunction will also sound a chime. In addition, the message "Service Tire Pressure System" will appear in the instrument panel display for at least five seconds, and then dashes (- -) will be displayed instead of the pressure value to indicate which sensor is not being received.

If the ignition is turned on, this sequence will repeat to indicate the system malfunction still exists. If the system malfunction no longer exists, the TPMS indicator light will no longer flash, the "Service Tire Pressure System" message will no longer appear in the display, and the pressure value will be displayed instead of dashes. A system malfunction may occur due to any of the following:

  • Signal interference from electronic devices or from driving near objects that transmit the same radio frequencies as the TPMS sensors.
  • Snow or ice build-up on the wheels or wheel housings.
  • Use of tire snow chains on the vehicle.
  • Use of wheels/tires that are not equipped with TPMS sensors.

Vehicles with a Compact Spare Tire

  1. The compact spare tire or an incompatible full-size spare tire does not have a TPMS sensor. Therefore, the TPMS will not monitor the tire pressure of the compact or incompatible full-size spare tire.
  2. If you install a compact or incompatible full-size spare tire in place of a road tire with a pressure below the low tire pressure warning limit, the TPMS indicator light will illuminate and the chime will sound at the next ignition cycle. In addition, the graphic in the instrument cluster will continue to display a different color for the tire pressure and the message "Inflate to XX".
  3. After driving the vehicle for 20 minutes at speeds above 24 km/h, the TPMS indicator light will flash for 75 seconds and then remain on continuously. In addition, the message "Service Tire Pressure System" will appear in the instrument cluster display for five seconds, and then dashes (- -) will be displayed instead of the pressure value.
  4. At each subsequent ignition cycle, the TPMS warning chime will sound. The indicator light will flash and turn off for 75 seconds and then remain on continuously. The message "Service Tire Pressure System" will appear in the instrument cluster display for five seconds, and then dashes (- -) will be displayed instead of the pressure value.
  5. 5. After you repair or replace the original road tire and reinstall it on the vehicle in place of the compact spare or incompatible full-size spare, the TPMS will update automatically. The TPMS indicator light will turn off and the instrument cluster graphic will display the new pressure value instead of dashes (- -), provided the tire pressure is not below the low tire pressure warning limit in any of the four active road tires. The vehicle may need to be driven for up to 20 minutes at speeds above 15 mph (24 km/h) for the TPMS to receive this information.
