Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) — If Equipped
The BSM system uses two radar sensors located inside the rear fascia/bumper to detect vehicles (cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc.) that enter the blind spots at the rear/front/sides of the vehicle.

When the vehicle is started, the BSM warning light briefly illuminates in both outside rearview mirrors so the driver knows the system is operating.
The BSM sensors operate when the vehicle is in any forward or reverse gear.

The BSM detection zone covers approximately one traffic lane width on each side of the vehicle, 12 feet (3.8 m). The zone begins at the outside rearview mirror and extends approximately 10 feet (3 m) beyond the rear fascia/bumper of the vehicle. The BSM system monitors the detection zones on both sides of the vehicle when vehicle speed reaches approximately 10 km/h or higher, and the driver of the vehicle is in these areas.
NOTE:
- The BSM system does NOT warn the driver of rapidly approaching vehicles that are outside the detection zones.
- The BSM detection zone does NOT CHANGE when your vehicle is towing a trailer. Therefore, visually check that the adjacent lane is clear for both you and your vehicle and trailer before changing lanes. If a trailer or other object (such as a bicycle or sports equipment) extends beyond the side of your vehicle, the BSM warning light may remain illuminated at all times while the vehicle is in a forward gear.
- The BSM system may malfunction (flash on and off) the outside mirror warning lights when a motorcycle or any small object remains beside the vehicle for an extended period of time (more than a couple of seconds).
The area on the rear fascia/bumper where the radar sensors are located must remain free of snow, ice and dirt/road contaminants for the BSM system to function properly. Do not cover the area of the rear fascia/bumper where the radar sensors are located with foreign objects (bumper stickers, bicycle racks, etc.).

The BSM system alerts the driver to objects in the detection zones by illuminating the BSM warning light in the outside mirrors, in addition to an audible chime and reducing radio volume for additional awareness.
The BSM system monitors the detection zone from three different entry points (side, rear, front) while driving to determine whether a warning is required. The BSM system will issue a warning during these types of zone entry.
Side Entry
Vehicles that travel into adjacent lanes from either side of the vehicle.

Rear Entry
Vehicles that approach your vehicle from behind on either side and enter the rear detection zone with a relative speed of less than 31 mph (50 km/h).

Traffic Passing
If you slowly pass another vehicle (with a relative speed of less than 15 mph (24 km/h)) and the vehicle remains in the blind spot for approximately 1.5 seconds, the warning light will illuminate. If the speed difference between the two vehicles exceeds 24 km/h, the warning light will not illuminate.

The BSM system is designed not to alert for stationary objects such as guardrails, poles, walls, foliage, embankments, etc. However, the system may sometimes alert for such objects. This is normal operation and your vehicle does not require service.

The BSM system will not alert you to objects moving in the opposite direction of your vehicle's travel in adjacent lanes.
