DIAGNOSTIC TEST O: REVERSE BRAKE ASSIST DEVICE IS INOPERATIVE OR DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY

Normal Operation and Fault Symptoms

The Traction Control System, TCS, and the Active Park Assist function must be enabled for the Reverse Brake Assist function to be operational. All vehicle doors must be closed.

Possible Sources

  • Communication Problem
  • Park Assist System Concern
  • ABS system concern
  • Doors open
  • Traction control off
  • Park assist system off
  • CTA system off
  • Trailer connected
  • Dirty rear park assist camera
O1 CHECK THE REVERSE BRAKE ASSIST DEVICE FOR CORRECT OPERATION
  • Make sure the message center displays a Reverse Brake Assist unavailable warning.
  • Possible cause:
    • Make sure the Reverse Brake Assist function is activated.
    • Check the vehicle service history if the vehicle was recently serviced when the battery may have been disconnected.
    • Check if this is a new vehicle
    • Check if the traction control system is enabled
    • Make sure the active park assist function is enabled.
    • Make sure the CTA is enabled in the message center
  • Repair:
    • Drive the vehicle straight on a level/smooth road above 50 km/h with minimal steering wheel input for 30 seconds.
    • Turn on the traction control switch
    • Enable the active park assist function. If the system cannot be activated, REFER TO the symptom chart in this section.
    • ACTIVATE THE CTA. If the system cannot be activated,
REFER TO: Blind Spot Information System (419-04 Side and Rear View Camera, Diagnosis and Testing).
  • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
Yes GO to O2
No The system is currently operating correctly
O2 CHECK FOR BLIS (BLIND SPOT INFORMATION SYSTEM), PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE), IPMB (IMAGE PROCESSING MODULE B), ABS (ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM) AND BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) DTCs
  • Check the BLIS, PCM, IPMB, ABS and BCM. DTCs are present.
  • Using the diagnostic scanner, perform a self-test of the BLIS, PCM, IPMB, ABS and BCM.

Are DTCs present in any of these modules?
Yes Diagnose all DTCs for the module in question.
No GO to O3
O3 CLEAN THE REAR PARK ASSIST CAMERA LENS AND REAR PARK ASSIST SENSORS
  • Clean and make sure there is no debris on the rear view camera lens and the rear park assist sensors.
  • The ignition is on.
  • Check the Reverse Brake Assist system for correct operation.
