Scheduled Maintenance

Severe Operating Conditions Scheduled Maintenance

~2min read

If you drive your vehicle primarily under any of the following conditions, you must perform additional maintenance as specified. If you drive your vehicle only occasionally under any of these conditions, additional maintenance is not required. For specific recommendations, consult your dealer service advisor or technician. Perform the services shown in the following tables when indicated or within 3000 miles (4800 km) of the oil change due message appearing on the information display.

  • Example 1: The message appears at 28,750 miles (46,270 km). Perform the automatic transmission fluid change at 30,000 miles (48,000 km).
  • Example 2: The message has not appeared, but the odometer reads 30,000 miles (48,000 km) (for example, the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor was reset at 25,000 miles (40,000 km)). Perform the engine air filter replacement.

1 Reset the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor after replacing the engine oil and filter. Refer to Oil Change Indicator Reset.

Exceptions

There are some exceptions to the normal schedule:

Axle and Transfer Case Maintenance:

The transfer case, front axle and rear axle in your vehicle do not require routine scheduled maintenance. The vehicle electronically monitors these components and notifies the driver when service is required by displaying a message on the information display. The transfer case, front axle and rear axle fluid will most likely need to be changed if the vehicle has been operated for extended periods under severe/harsh conditions. Inspection or replacement of transfer case, front and/or rear axle lubricant is not necessary unless the unit has been submerged in water, shows signs of leakage, or a service message is displayed. Refer to an authorized dealer for service.

California Fuel Filter Replacement: If you register your vehicle in California, the California Air Resources Board has determined that failure to perform this maintenance item does not void the emissions warranty or limit recall liability before the end of the vehicle's useful life. However, Ford Motor Company strongly recommends performing all recommended maintenance at the specified intervals and keeping records of all vehicle maintenance.

Oil Change Intervals in Hot Climates : Vehicles operated in the Middle East, North Africa, sub-Saharan African countries or areas with a similar climate that use gasoline engine oil certified by the American Petroleum Institute (API) Certification Mark, quality SM or SN, have a normal oil change interval of 8,000 km (5,000 miles). If API SM or SN oils are not available, the oil change interval is 3,000 miles (4,800 km).

Engine Air Filter and Cabin Air Filter Replacement: The service life of the engine air filter and cabin air filter depends on exposure to dusty and dirty conditions. Vehicles operated in such conditions require more frequent inspection and replacement of the engine air filter and cabin air filter.
