Checking the engine oil

~1min read

CAUTION

Do not add engine performance additives to the oil. Under certain conditions they can damage the engine.

Note: New engines reach normal oil consumption only after approximately 5000 km.

Checking the oil level

CAUTION

Make sure the level is between the MIN and MAX marks.

Note: Check the level before starting the engine.

Note: Make sure the vehicle is standing on level ground.

Note: Hot oil expands.

For this reason, the level may exceed the MAX mark by a few millimetres.

Pull out the dipstick and wipe it clean with a clean, lint-free cloth. Reinsert the dipstick, then pull it out again to check the oil level.

If the level drops to the MIN mark, top up immediately

Topping up

WARNINGS

  • Only top up when the engine is cold. If the engine is hot, wait 10 minutes for it to cool down.
  • Do not remove the filler cap while the engine is running.

Remove the filler cap.

CAUTION

When topping up, do not exceed the MAX mark.

Use only oil that meets Ford specification. See Technical specifications (page 144).

Refit the filler cap. Turn it until you feel firm resistance.
