Removal

1. 1
   Refer to: Engine Cooling System Safety Precautions (100-00 General Information, Description and Operation).

   Drain the cooling system.
   Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Air Bleeding (303-03A Engine Cooling — 1.5 L EcoBoost (118 kW/160 L hp) — I4, General Procedures).

   Remove the engine appearance cover.

   Disconnect the electrical connector.

   Disconnect the wire harness assembly hose and disconnect the electrical connector.

   Remove the following components:

   1. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe.
      Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe (303-12A Air Distribution and Filtering - 1.5 L EcoBoost (118 kW/160 L PS) - I4, Removal and Installation).

   Remove the crankcase vent hose.
   Use common equipment: hose clamp removal/installation tool.

   Loosen the clamp and disconnect the bypass hose. Disconnect the wire harness pin retainers and loosen the clamp.
   Use common equipment: hose clamp removal/installation tool.

   Remove the bolts and the TC intake elbow.

    Loosen the coolant pump pulley bolts.

    Refer to: Jacking and Lifting – Overview (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation).

    Remove the nuts and the half shaft bearing support.

    Remove the bolts and set the bracket support aside.

    Remove the engine block bolt.

    Install the special service tool: 303-748 Crankshaft Locking Tool.

    NOTICE: Rotate the crankshaft clockwise only.

    Slowly rotate the crankshaft until it stops.

    Remove the following components:

    1. Remove the generator.
       Refer to: Generator - 1.5 L EcoBoost (118 kW/160 L PS) - I4 (414-02 Generator and Regulator, Removal and Installation).
    2. Remove the engine mount.
       Refer to: Engine Mount (303-01A — 1.5 L EcoBoost (118 kW/160 L hp) — I4, Removal and Installation).

    Remove the bolts and the accessory drive belt tensioner.

    1. Disconnect the wire harness retainer and remove the nut.

    2. Remove the bolt and the support bracket.

    1. Remove the timing belt cover stud.

    2. Disengage the cover from the retainer and open it.

    1. Remove the coolant pump bolts and pulley.

    2. Remove the engine mount stud.

    3. Disconnect the wiring harness clips.

    4. Remove the bolt.

    5. Disconnect the wiring harness retainer.

    6. Remove the bolt.

    7. Remove the bolts.

    Remove the timing belt cover.

    Install a new timing belt if the old belt is contaminated with coolant or oil.
    Refer to Timing Belt (303-01A Engine - 1.5 L EcoBoost (118 kW/160 L hp) - I4, Removal and Installation).

    Disconnect the electrical connector.

    1. NOTICE: Use only the specified special tool.

       NOTICE: Make sure the crankshaft does not rotate while installing the special tool.

       Install the special service tool: 303-1556 Locking Tool, Timing Belt.

    2. NOTICE: Note the position of the components before removal.

    NOTICE: Do not rotate the crankshaft or camshafts with the timing belt removed.

    Rotate the timing belt tensioner and install the retaining pin.
    Use common equipment: 4 mm drill

    Remove the bolt and the timing belt tensioner.

    NOTICE: Protect the timing belt and the lower timing belt cover from coolant contamination.

    • Remove the bolts and the coolant pump.

    • Discard the bolts.

    Remove and discard the gasket.

    

Installation

1. 1
   Install a new gasket.

   Install the coolant pump and new bolts.
   Torque:
   Stage 1: 53 lb-in (6 N·m)
   Stage 2: 89 lb-in (10 N·m)

   1. Install the timing belt tensioner and tighten the bolt.
      Torque: 18 lb-ft (25 N·m)

   2. Remove the retaining pin.
      Remove the main equipment: 4 mm drill.

   2. Remove the special service tool: 303-1556 Timing Belt Locking Tool.

   Remove the special service tool: 303-748 Crankshaft Locking Tool.

   Install and tighten the engine block bolt.
   Torque: 177 lb-in (20 N·m)

   Wash off engine coolant residue from the timing belt and associated drive components.

   Install the timing belt cover.

   

10. 10
    1. Install the timing belt cover bolts.
       Torque: 89 lb-in (10 N·m)

    2. Install the bolt.
       Torque: 89 lb-in (10 N·m)

    3. Install and tighten the engine mount stud.
       Torque: 71 lb-in (8 N·m)

    4. Install the coolant pump pulley and tighten the bolts.

    5. Set the wiring aside and attach the wire harness retainer.

    6. Install and tighten the bolt.

    7. Attach the wiring harness retainers.

    1. Close the cover and attach the retainer.

    2. Install and tighten the timing belt cover stud.
       Torque: 89 lb-in (10 N·m)

    1. Install the support bracket and tighten the nut.
       Torque: 62 lb-in (7 N·m)

    2. Install the bolt and attach the wire harness retainer.
       Torque: 17 lb-ft (23 N·m)

    Install the accessory drive belt tensioner and tighten the bolts.
    Torque: 35 lb-ft (48 N·m)

    Install the following components:

    1. Install the engine mount.
       Refer to: Engine Mount (303-01A Engine — 1.5 L EcoBoost (118 kW/160 L hp) — I4, Removal and Installation).
    2. Install the alternator.
       Refer to: Alternator — 1.5 L EcoBoost (118 kW/160 L hp) — I4 (414-02 Generator and Regulator, Removal and Installation).

    Install the support bracket and tighten the bolts.
    Torque: 35 lb-ft (48 N·m)

    Install the half shaft bearing support and tighten the nuts.
    Torque:
    Stage 1: 44 lb-in (5 N·m)
    Stage 2: 18 lb-ft (25 N·m)
    Stage 3: 18 lb-ft (25 N·m)

    Install the underbody shield and clips.

    Tighten the bolts.
    Torque: 18 lb-ft (24 N·m)

    Install the TC intake elbow and tighten the bolts.
    Torque: 71 lb-in (8 N·m)

    1. Tighten the clamp.
       Torque: 44 lb-in (5 N·m)

    2. Connect the bypass hose and attach the wire harness retainers.
       Use common equipment: hose clamp removal/installation tool.

    Install the vent hose.
    Use common equipment: hose clamp removal/installation tool.

    Install the following components:

    1. Install the air cleaner outlet pipe.
       Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe (303-12A Air Distribution and Filtering - 1.5 L EcoBoost (118 kW/160 L PS) - I4, Removal and Installation).

    Connect the electrical connector and attach the wiring harness clip.

    Connect the electrical connector.

    

25. 25
    Install the engine outer cover.

    

26. 26
    Fill and bleed the cooling system.
    Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Air Bleeding (303-03A Engine Cooling - 1.5 L EcoBoost (118 kW/160 L hp) - I4, General Procedures).
