Exterior Lighting - Overview. Description and Operation
Headlamps
The headlamp system consists of:
- Headlamp Assembly
- Headlight Switch
- Adaptive Front Lighting Module (halogen headlamps equipped with LED signature/front position lamps and LED headlamps)
- Multifunction Switch on the LH Steering Column
- BCM
- HS-CAN
- SCCM
- IPMA
For halogen headlamps, the headlamp system is a four-beam system. It consists of replaceable low-beam and high-beam bulbs in each headlamp assembly. The park, turn and side marker lamps are integrated into the headlamp assembly.
For LED headlamps, the headlamp system is a four-beam system. It consists of non-replaceable low-beam and high-beam LEDs in each headlamp assembly. The park, turn and side marker lamps are integrated into the headlamp assembly.
Daytime Running Lamps (DRL)
The DRL system consists of:
- Low beam (halogen headlamps without LED signature/front park lamps)
- LED signature/front position lamps (halogen headlamps equipped with LED signature/front position lamps and LED headlamps)
- BCM
For halogen headlamps not equipped with LED signature/front position lamps, the DRL system operates the low-beam headlamps at reduced intensity.
For halogen headlamps equipped with LED signature/front position lamps and LED headlamps, the DRL system turns on the LED signature/front position lamps at full intensity.
Automatic Headlamps
The autolamp system consists of:
- Light Sensor
- Headlight Switch
- BCM
The autolamp system provides light-sensitive automatic control of the exterior lamps. The autolamp system keeps the exterior lamps on for a preselected period of time after the ignition is turned off (20 seconds is the factory default). The preselected time can be adjusted up to approximately 3 minutes using the message center controls.
Brake Lamps
The stoplamp system consists of:
- Stop Lamp Switch
- Rear Lamp Assembly
- High Mounted Stop Lamp
- BCM
The brake lamp switch is located on the brake pedal assembly. Voltage is supplied to the rear lamps and the high mounted stoplamp when the brake pedal is applied.
The stop lamps are integrated into the rear lamp assembly. They are Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) and are serviced only with the rear lamp assembly.
Turn Signal and Hazard Warning
The turn signal lamp system consists of:
- Front Turn Signal Lamps
- Rear Lamp Assembly
- Outside Mirrors
- Multifunction Switch on the LH Steering Column
- Hazard Warning Switch
- DDM
- PDM
- BCM
- SCCM
When the left multifunction switch on the steering column is placed in the left or right turn position, the corresponding turn indicators illuminate and extinguish.
When the hazard function is active, all turn signals flash and turn off.
The front turn signal lamps are integrated into the headlamps.
The rear turn signal lamps are integrated into the rear lamp assembly. They are Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) and are serviced only with the rear lamp assembly.
Parking, Tail and License Plate Lamps
The park lamp system consists of:
- Front Parking Lamps
- Front side marker lamps
- Rear Lamp Assembly
- Decklid park lamps (part of the back-up lamp assembly)
- License Plate Lamp
- Headlight Switch
- BCM
The front park lamps and side marker lamps are integrated into the headlamps.
The rear park lamps and side marker lamps are integrated into the rear lamp assembly. The decklid park lamps may also be integrated into the back-up lamp assembly. They are Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) and are serviced only with the lamp assembly.
Fog Lamps
The fog lamp system consists of:
- Fog Lamp Assembly
- Fog Lamp Switch (integrated into the headlamp switch)
- BCM
- SCCM
The fog lamps can be turned on when the ignition is in the RUN position, the park lamps are on, and the high beams are off.
Back-Up Lamps
The back-up lamp system consists of:
- Back-Up Lamps
- PCM
- BCM
When the transmission is in REVERSE, the back-up lamps illuminate. The back-up lamps are located on the decklid.
