Symptom Chart
The diagnosis in this manual assumes a certain level of skill and knowledge of Ford-approved diagnostic procedures.
REFER TO: Diagnostic Methods (100-00 General Information, Description and Operation).
In most cases, the PCM sets a DTC to assist with diagnosis. See DTC before using the Symptom Chart. The Symptom column lists the vehicle condition. The Possible Sources column lists the specific vehicle condition details. The Action column lists the actions to perform to determine the cause of the condition. Each action lists the components that may cause the symptom and the individual components in this system.

PINPOINT TEST G: DTCS P085D, P0860, P0861, P0862 For circuit and connector information, refer to Cell 37 of the Wiring Diagrams. Normal Operation and Fault SymptomsThe TRCM, GSM and PCM communicate over the HS-CAN bus, but use a hard-wired PWM system as a backup. If the HS-CAN system fails, the TRCM, GSM and PCM communicate through this hard-wired system. The GSM sends a PWM signal to the PCM when the CAN system is not functioning, so the PCM knows which range the operator has selected. The PWM operates at 2 frequencies, 190 Hz and 230 Hz, and outputs 8 duty cycles. DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
